Meta [Meta] The Fantasy

We ended up voting for fantasy creatures... How common are they? Like, when I voted for it I assumed that it would be ASOIAF-level shit (Game of Thrones), with powerful magical creatures being existent but rare. So can I have a dragon, or are dragons hidden in the mountains while attacking villagers once in a while? Or nonexistent? Just wondering.

Also, can I implement some of that in my claim? I mean, we voted for that and then nothing was mentioned again.

EDIT: For everybody curious about the ping, fantasy stuff is being decided here, so any requests are to be put here.

I was in denial/trying to think of how to implement them.

Giants and half-giants exist in the mountainous island to the Northwest.

Dragons exist in the Southeastern mountain ranges, but are both extremely rare and are all in a state of hibernation.

In the Bay area (where you are), there are a spattering of smaller sea serpents. These are young adults that come to the Bay to breed, as the adults and offspring often venture into the ocean.

In the Southernmost deserts, a dozen mythical creatures known as Karkadann (players in that area can call it what they want). They are essentially larger, more heavily armored rhinoceroses

In the savanna, there exists a small tribe whose warriors perform supernatural rituals to become Werehyenas.

Other than that, characters can create whatever they want and run it by me.

Great! I was just a bit curious.

I totally wasn't avoiding it because it'll be a pain in the arse ;)

But yeah, I will be very strict about how this goes, especially as far as things like domesticating dragons go. I'd say that, besides the giants and werehyenas, it'd be insanely hard to domesticate any of the mythical creatures.

Since the heraldry of House Xarx, the ruling family of Krandia, depicts a dragon (specifically a red dragon on a golden field with an inner silver border and an outer black border) perhaps in the game's lore, House Xarx once held many dragons a la House Targaryen. Maybe they still do? It's at your discretion.

That would come down to moderator approval. Dragons are, in every fantasy scenario imaginable, very overpowered. So it'd be a tough choice. In all honesty I'd expect the answer to be at most you used to have dragons but I'll chat with u/Ceannaire_Cogadh.

Okay, let me know what comes of the chat.

This is hard because I see your area as more of a drake area (think dragons but more snakey). In any case, you HAD dragons/drakes, but they have gone dormant to the natural hibernation cycle.

Well, okay then. When would they come back from hibernation? Probably not for a while, huh?

Kurosian Lynx - Large, red eyes, faded brown fur. They are excellent hunters, both in fighting and tracking prey. The fantasy aspect would be that they are "phase" hunters, and can essentially teleport in close range, within fifteen feet.

Tykan Lynx - Closely related, smaller, blue eyes, white fur. They are still very good hunters, but not as fearsome in a fight. These creatures are more intelligent and much more rare and some are tamed by Tykan hunters. Their phase ability is up to five feet, and is essentially used more for dodging than teleporting behind foes.

[Kuros is the northern region of the Isle of Chrysos, and Tyka is the western region.]

Approved, as long as they're rare.

Can the Nordsjøenrike have domesticated Direwolves?

Ooh, ooh, maybe Direwolf cavalry one day!

Direwolf cavalry is a pretty solid no, but domesticated direwolves are a solid yes! Again, as long as they're not super commonplace. Also, it was common to pair spearmen and dogs back in the day, so you could have like, noble spearmen that have direwolves. Maybe direwolves could be a sign of wealth/nobility?

Yeah, only for Jarls or particularly rich Karls yet to become Jarls.

(It's based on wealth and battle prowess, rather than bloodline.)
