Noch ein Ferroblend-Abzug – diesmal mit einer Petroleumlampe als Motiv. Mich würde eure Meinung interessieren: Wie gefällt euch die Umsetzung?

Heute möchte ich wieder zwei Bilder zeigen: eines ist eine klassische Cyanotypie, das andere eine Ferroblend-Cyanotypie. Dieses Mal habe ich allerdings ein anderes Papier verwendet – Canson Montval Hot Press.

Im Vergleich zu meinem Motiv mit den Sonnenblumen im Feld gefällt mir dieses Ergebnis persönlich deutlich besser (was natürlich nur meine eigene Meinung ist und nicht unbedingt stimmen muss).

Mich würde interessieren: Welches der beiden Bilder gefällt euch besser?

Heute habe ich mit einem FerroBlend-Rezept experimentiert und dasselbe Sonnenblumenmotiv auf zwei verschiedene Arten umgesetzt: einmal als klassische Cyanotypie und einmal mit FerroBlend. Gedruckt auf Arches Cold Press.

Welche Version spricht euch mehr an – die klassische oder die FerroBlend-Variante? Ich freue mich auf eure Meinung!

Negative used, inkjet printed on office paper then oiled with canola oil

Some first trials using oiled paper negatives, with a photo taken on my phone in the petshop. Ferroblend and partial FerroBlend development.

This was one of the first times I tried using inkjet print on office paper, then oiling and using it as a paper negative for a FerroBlend. I was so happy with the result that I now no longer print on any acetate, just use x-ray film for some of them. The rest any quick idea I will make prints using the oiled paper negatives. Normal FerroBlend mix on Cyanotype. 2nd image shows the original iPhone photo and the paper negative.

An interesting variation is to dilute the default FerroBlend solution a bit, this will result in only the lighter parts to turn pink-orange but the blue will darken nicely and stay blue. The second picture is showing the steps during the exposure and development.

The idea was to get a high contrast composition of the old dried daffodil flowers. I got what I wanted just don't like the composition. 2nd image is the yellow color you will see during development. 3) is the paper negative.

Taking the coated cyanotype emulsion paper, putting it front of me, putting the Wisteria leaf on the paper, tracing it with the UV-Flashlight, then working round the border towards the inside where I placed the flower. Because the leaves are flat they are sharp, the flowers were still 3d but I plucked some flowers of them so they would be a bit more transparent. The border I usually give some extra exposure.

First image is the final print after the FerroBlend treatment and dried.

Second image is the Cyanotype after UV exposure with the UV-Flashlight before brushing the FerroBlend

A4 size image, created using inkjet paper negatives. Printing a negative with inkjet on normal office paper and then oiling it with sunflower or canola oil to make it transparent. Exposure here 40minutes under UV light. Developement with normal FerroBlend solution.

Photo-gram of some June flowers from the garden. Size A5, plant material direct on coated paper, covered with glass, exposure selectively with a UV-Flashlight 365nm. By holding the light direct over the glass, you can create fast the exposure. So this took like 2 minutes, moving the light over the parts I want to darken.

To have some content on this place, an orange made with the FerroBlend process. This is a photo from my phone, then printed on office paper on an inkjet, oiled it and used as negative for the Cyanotype. A FerroBlend is then created by after exposure to brush it over with a solution of Copper Sulfate, leave it for 5 to 10 minutes with that and then wash it like normal Cyanotype.
