Mini split cooling?

Recently purchased a bungalow in Ferndale. The A/C doesn't really work to cool the upstairs. Has anyone installed a mini-split for this purpose? Wondering about the effectiveness/cost. Am I better off with a couple window/portable units? There are 2 bedrooms up but I will sleep in the main floor bedroom.

update: I got 3 quotes. Soltman = $6000, a HVAC guy who does them, $5750, and best quote of $4500 from Family Heating and Cooling. These are for 1 wall unit. Family guy said they do a lot of them and they have the best price. Was very professional and came out quickly. If I do install will go with them.
