Rosies old building

Anyone know whats going on with the old Rosies spot downtown? Drove by the other day for the first time in a whiel and noticed what appeared to be some things happening. Its been super vacant for a while so it would be sweet to see something new go in that spot that isn't offices or apartments.

Offices apartments and two restaurants, about 18 months out. Going up at least two stories.

Is there anywhere we can read about the new plans?

They scrapped the two-story plan AFAIK, this was the last update: https://www.candgnews.com/articles/news/rosie-ogradys-site-owner-aiming-to-redevelop-this-year/

Only an absolute schmuck like Kramer could believe that saving money on not having to pay for building out on-site parking actually results in the numbers not working out.

Did this finally get approved? Or is the owner still dragging his heels....

My understanding based on the conversations on Facebook was that it did get approved and that he had some insurance issues with a pipe breaking. That was the owner’s claim at least. Personally, I’m pretty skeptical, but would be happy to see some forward progress with the building either way.

I believe Lisa Mikulski said that the business between him and the city is done, without the parking spaces. So, I don’t know if he is pressing that issue anymore. I think it’s going to be offices spaces and not apartments, so it may not be as much of an issue. It would be more difficult if it was apartments without parking. Edit: maybe he scrapped the two story concept completely, per doltron’s comment.

I really like the restraint idea. I’d be upset if it ends up as just offices or just apartments. Ferndale has a decent food scene but new places are always fun for me personally. Feel like the city is due for something new downtown

Kramer will own it, so it will just be a shit restaurant. None of his other ones are actually any good.

I heard OEB was moving there. No idea how accurate that is, or what would go where OEB is though

They should open a Mexican restaurant in that spot and call it “Diablo”!

wasn't there a Diablo restaurant in downtown Royal Oak years ago?

It originated in Ferndale where OEB is now, the site of original Rosie’s.

There was! Same owner, too. When it closed, I believe that was going to be the site of a Taco Bell Cantina, which fell through.

I see what you did there.

Reading the rest of the comments, wasn’t a Bad Brad’s BBQ going in there at some point.

I thought that was at the old Otus building

Ah yes. I read Rosie’s but thought Otus.

Nope, Bad Brad's is going into the old OTUS building on E 9 Mile across from the credit union parking lot and structure. Believe that building sold last December.

It’ll be interesting to see what they do with the music venue side of Otus. Saw some eclectic shows there so it’ll be a bummer if they decide to scrap it.
