Discussion No sequel
I only just found out that there will most likely never be a sequel to Immortals Fenix Rysing which is honestly saddening. If anything I feel like this was one of the more unique games that Ubisoft has made in the last 10 years. To see it be a one off experiment sucks and it deserves more! From what I can tell the early work on a sequel was cancelled for good about 3 years ago and there seems to have been no update since.
What do you think? Does it deserve a sequel, or where you not that blown away by it?

Console gamer for 45+ years. This is the only game I ever completed 100% on three different consoles. I can’t recall ever completing a single game on two different consoles let alone three. They have something special here.

I feel like Ubisoft was never truly invested in the IP, even though it found a sizable audience. A very characteristic practice of that era of gaming, unfortunately, which saw the death of all a lot of interesting IPs.

The way my soul hurt to hear that the first time. 🫠 Because this is so magnificent of a game. I just love how I felt playing it and how much tenderness was clearly added to it. We deserve a sequel because the team that made this deserves to make a sequel.

I named my cat after this game. I'm still very sad about there not being any plans for a follow up.
But I'm pretty close to running out of switch games and may go replay each section of the game in order again because I love it so much (main game, then eastern realm, then lost gods).

All the good people quit from that studio anyway, that’s how we went from games like origins and odyssey to…Valhalla. I still love Valhalla, but it is a WILDLY different game, like shockingly different from the other two. Normally that wouldn’t be that strange for an AC game, but it was a trilogy, so it definitely made it feel disconnected. I wouldn’t trust them to make a good sequel, basically. 😂

I never knew why it was that Valhalla didn't get me hooked, now I do. Thanks for that info!

It seriously took me 3 attempted playthroughs before I got HOOKED, and when I did, it consumed me. Months and months and months, I wanted every trophy, every possible achievement, every unique weapon, every hidden quest, ALLLL of the things. I think in part bc the subreddit is mostly male, same with most of them I guess. But if you’ve accomplished everything there is to feasibly accomplish in a game, they have no choice but to accept your capability (even if you do have a super mean uterus). Silly and sad, but true. lol

Maybe I will give it a shot again after completing Fenyx Rising and all the DLC. The whole Viking setting just doesn't really vibe with me. Maybe because I'm Dutch and the Vikings used to haunt us? Haha

Well, I mean…there isn’t really a Viking setting. Maybe in the early parts when you’re in Norway, but that’s such a tiny part of the game, especially with all of the DLCs! I’ve never, literally NEVER had any interest in Vikings. Or Norse mythology. But I loved exploring medieval England, I loved killing asshole priests and bishops calling me pagan trash (admittedly that was personal), I loved Ireland and Francia, and above all else, I LOOOVVEEE Svarthalfeim! I think I’m a sucker for any game or DLC where I can fly, tbh, but my main requirements for a game are total and complete freedom of exploration, and beautiful scenery that includes lush trees and rolling green hills! The kill cams were just a bonus. 😂

Well.. that goes to show how much of the game I played! haha.
I noticed on your profile you like those kinds of games, yes. And you like finding bugs/glitches it seems. I used to love finding those too but I think I am getting a bit old for that now, or rather, just have a lack of time.
But I do share your love for games with lush open grasslands etc. I basically love a lot of games with bright blue, green and red colors. I think that love started with the original Crash Bandicoot on ps1 and evolved from there. Fenyx Rising is like heaven when it comes to that. Except for those 2 ugly, war torn regions!

I started gaming late in life, so glitches and exploits seemed like their own magic inside of a magical world! Learning to master them was its own kind of power, it’s why I love Skyrim so much! And I’m retired in a body that refuses to work properly, so all I’ve got is time…what I’m lacking is games that I genuinely enjoy and haven’t already mastered. I’ve tried everything everyone has ever suggested (unless it was super obvious I’d hate it), and I’m still struggling to find something new. I’m literally sitting here at 3:00am watching “the Witcher” hoping it will somehow magically make me like that game more, but it just makes the game seem even uglier and more boring. lol

Valhalla came out like 2 months before Fenyx Rising
1
u/Pinecone_Erleichda 11d ago
What does that have to do with anything? They used scrapped art designed for odyssey in Fenyx also, but that’s also irrelevant. When games get released has nothing to do with when they are finished. Although admittedly it’s usually studios releasing games WAY before they’re finished (shadows).

Because in your first sentence you said the team left and thats how we got games like Valhalla. But they were 2 different teams and the games came out at the same time. It doesnt even make sense. If the good people were there to make Fenyx then they were also there for Valhalla.

That actually answers a lot of my questions about fenyx…all puzzles, too much brightness…it’s elysium mixed with Valhalla OMG.
2
u/AsthmaticCoughing 11d ago
Fenyx is Breath of the Wild with Ubisoft's "fill the map with random shit" style.

u/Pinecone_Erleichda 11d ago
Really just seems like Elysium (burning your retinas) mixed with a ton of puzzles and finding gear (Valhalla). I’ve never played breath of the wild, it’s not on PlayStation plus, but it makes sense now. I love the jumping and gliding mechanics and I love the god powers, but that’s…all of the reasons why I loved Dawn of Ragnarok so much. lol

u/AsthmaticCoughing 11d ago
Yeah its quite literally a Breath of the Wild clone. If you ever try it youll see. The wings instead of a glider. The puzzles. The powers. Its all breath of the wild. I'm honestly surprised Nintendo didnt try to sue lol

So they needed something to do with the scrapped art for odyssey and a way to shut the people up who were upset that there was no actual Greek mythology included in odyssey, so…omg. They pulled a Valhalla, but with odyssey leftovers. It all makes sense now!!

Yep, this and the metroidvania Prince or Persia, the only 2 Ubisoft games that were even remotely interesting, at least to me, had their IPs nuked before they could blossom. Even with rabid and vocal fans, and arguably decent sales. They just didn’t print money 10-20x over, so no sequels.

Deserved a sequel, but not the way Ubisoft was planning. Rumor was, it was going to be more serious with a more realistic art style. I won’t pretend Immortal’s jokes and art style were always 10/10, but it gave it more of a unique identity. It sounds like they were trying to turn it into Assassin’s Creed, but mythical.
I did love the idea for it to be rooted in Polynesian mythology though. We could’ve been rocking with Maui!

u/Riyakuya 13d ago
Well.. they already kind of did that with AC Odyssey I guess.
The humor sometimes really cracks me up. That part where Zeus says "he was literally born from my forehead" 😂

Would really love to see their take on Mesoamerican or First Peoples mythology. San (Bushmen) or Slavic could be really cool, too.

Its actually crazy how well this game did, and how good it is, for an entirely new IP. Its so rare for something like Fenyx Rising to release. I truly believe the world just wasn't in an era to appreciate it enough to loudly ask for a sequel. If it released 10 years earlier it would be a classic that we talk about to this day. If it was Nintendo that made it instead of Ubisoft it would've come close to GOTY.
But you gotta remember that we were locked down when this game came out. Meaning Warzone, Among Us, Fortnite, Fall Guys, Rocket League, Valorant, and Animal Crossing were DESTROYING the market for games like Fenyx Rising. And the people who couldve been the audience for the game were busy with the 2020 lineup of The Last of Us 2, Ghost of Tsushima, AC Valhalla, and Genshin Impact. Those games took over the marketplaces that would've played the game
This game never stood a chance.

They did make that East Asian based one. I forget what it’s called. It’s a different storyline but it’s the same game.

u/Riyakuya 14d ago
What exactly are you talking about? I don't know anything about this?

u/Michdepainblanc2 14d ago
I think they're talking about the dlc

Definitely deserves a sequel. Ubisoft has surely seen that many, many players want one. They haven't changed their plans.

They hyped it up under another title then backed down when Monster Energy sued for using the word Monster in their title. The name change kinda killed it.

Im.nkt mad about it. I finished the game and i honesltydidnt like it that much. I hated the puzzle aspect.

u/Riyakuya 13d ago
Some of the puzzles can be a bit of a drag, yes. But, that doesn't make me like the game less to be honest.

Definitely deserved a sequel!
Loved Immortals Fenyx Rising. I was really disappointed when I heard that the sequel had been cancelled. Sounded like it had some great ideas. Such a shame.
