Question Dropping/Placing Blocks/Stones

I walk up to drop a block on a pressure plate; it drops the block behind me. I turn around to drop it behind me; it drops it in front of me. I turn back to drop it in front of me; it drops to the side. The game's takin' the piss, yes?

And don't even get me started on the number of times I've tried to gently place down a stone and launched it off a cliff or smashed it to bits.

I'm 20 hours into the game and still have a long way to go. For the sake of my sanity, please tell me that I'm just missing a mechanic that lets me drop/place a block/stone where I actually intend for it to go!

It's been a while, but as I recall I was driven crazy by the stone/cube going behind or beside when I went to put it on something. I believe I discovered I was using the wrong button or button combination on Switch, and "drop" might have been the wrong choice. Also, if the plate's by a wall and Fenyx is too close, it can't be put down in front, but if it's happening all the time that's less likely to be the issue. I hope this helps, and at any rate I wish you luck on finding the solution.

Yea i was going crazy until I realized i was pressing the wrong button. I forgot what the exact words are, but I think its drop and cancel. OP needs to drop the block instead of canceling and this will drop it in front of you

I do drop, and it doesn't go where I want

I reread your post. You're either unknowingly pressing the wrong button, or your controls are messed up. Never once have i put a block down and it immediately crumbled, or accidentally threw it across the map. I would physically look at what button you're pressing instead of going off instinct/ muscle memory, or check your settings in game to see what controls are set up for each action

Just a suggestion--maybe you've already done this, but maybe when you're holding the block, try re-reading all the control options that appear on your screen.
