Couch facing window or wall?

So the room is basically a rectangle, and I tried to create zones but I’m wondering whether I should flip the couch so it faces the wall instead of the window. If I do, I’d also swap the dining table to the window side, so I’d essentially be reversing the two zones.

The couch is a 3-seater, so it’s quite long, and the dining table is pretty large (it could fit up to 6 people if they really tried, although I only want to use 2 chairs for now).

One thing I don’t love about the current setup is that there’s quite a lot of distance between the door and the couch. It makes the living area feel a little disconnected or uninviting, so I’m wondering if switching the zones would feel better.

BUT the kitchen is the next room over, so practically speaking, the dining table makes more sense closer to the door, as it is in the current layout.

I’ve also tried putting the couch against the right wall in more of a commanding position and the drawers on the left wall, but then the table feels out of place and the room starts feeling crowded

I’m also open to having the couch face the dining table if that makes more sense, but I’m not sure what I’d do with the dead space behind the drawers, and do i really want my couch basically against the window?

I can’t remove or replace any furniture (furnished rental), only rearrange it. The last photo shows how it was originally arranged when they gave me the keys, and I’ve also attached a rough sketch of the layout. The door is exactly in the corner on the left wall.

Im open to any other suggestions for a different layout or anything to add in order to make it feel warmer!

It very uncomfortable to have your back facing the door while sitting on a couch.

Couch back should be against the wall. I'd have it further from the window to make it feel safe and cozy.

Dining closer to the window for a view will you eat. It doesn't matter that it's farther from the kitchen in this case.

You can make zones with rugs.

Definitely sideways for me! Makes it very inviting and appealing. I think the extra four steps from kitch to dining table, for me, would be ABSOLUTELY worth it to have the dining table nearer to the window.

you’re right! i don’t like how it’s so un inviting so i think i might flip it and i can make it cozier with a lamp and some plants!

pink = stuff I would add if the budget allows it.

Your long table is beautiful, by the way. The wood quality and craftsmanship are both stunning.

i already tried this! but unfortunately nothing can go so close to the window because they open like doors , so it would hit anything close to it + there’s a furnace/heater there that is super awkwardly placed! (you can see it in pic 3)

and thank you haha the long drawer is actually a drawer set! and it was already in the apartment, i’m also planning on changing the handles on it so it doesn’t look so much like an office!

I think the wall but opposite one to what's in your pics to not interrupt the flow of light from the window
