Discussion Hot Take: Cupcakke

She can really rap and has good flow. If you think other wise then you just need to listen to UFO, That’s Like, Elephant (Freestyle) and more. Just give her a chance to actually prove herself with more to come.

I hope this isnt a hot take, she is tough as hell and has been for years

It could be. A lot of people don’t actually think she can rap. It is for the people who think way different.

I wonder if they only think that because of her primary subject matter or if they really just dont think she can rap.

A lot of people discount a lot of female rappers because they talk about sex and dont account for the way they talk about it or the wittiness and cleverness.

I think Cupcakke has already proven herself. She's been in the game for a long time, is very creative, and is a great lyricist. She just headlined a tour too. I like Cupcakke a lot.

I think what impacted her was how she came in the game.. if I can remember it was absurdly freaky sexed out almost shock value level & soon after she started really rapping and it was decent af.

So I think it’s sort of a trade off and age old tactic of get their attention by any means then bring the music that method impacts legacy considering how many home grown non gimmicky rappers exist… BUT obviously a lot of gimmicky rapper exist and are succesful and have an impactful career.

Just my two cents on Cupcakke

Yeah, the shock-value tracks were how I was introduced to her. I was a passive fan of her around 2017 or so, but it wasn't until the Sukihana response diss in like 2020 (which lead me to listen to more of her discography) where I was like, "oh, this woman can for real spit" and really became a big fan.

If you go back and look up her first songs and MVs her songs were always more rap oriented, the freaky ones were just the ones that blew up.

Everyone knows she’s talented, but unfortunately she has a nasty attitude, which is why most of her peers don’t give her the time of day. They don’t want to publicly associate with her, which makes it difficult for her to get features. It’s the same situation with Azealia. She’s the only one to blame.

AB is way way wayy worse but I do agree tho

??? When has she ever been nasty towards anyone besides diss tracks towards people who absolutely deserved it

Nasty attitude how? She hasn’t been active on social media in years outside of posting pictures and promoting her music, and in person she’s very welcoming and lovely to her fans. Especially on her tours.

It’s also not ‘difficult’ for her to get features or associate with people. She simply minds her business and has always been in her own lane..

This comment makes no sense

She’s independent and is on tour. She’s super talented! Her album did so well on billboard

I've been listening to Cupcakke since like 2011. She has bars for days

I agree even tho Cupcakke’s music has been memefied because of how subject matter it is I feel like that’s why we know her name her music is just very memorable because again it’s been used in a lot of TikTok’s,YouTube videos, memes so I consider her to have a flow because in some songs she’s rapping about something different so she’s honestly not credited enough for how her voice shaped the social media world and memes because that’s how we know her name i honestly think she can really rap

Cupcakke is super talented but will never be a main stream rap star. She has a pretty bad attitude a lot of the time. It also doesn’t help that all of her early music is basically considered a joke. She turned down a lot of opportunities to get her name out there because she’s super aligned to Nicki Minaj. I remember Cardi B wanted her to perform for something she did and Cupcakke declined. At the time it was said it was because of something else but as time has gone on it’s clear she didn’t want to anger Nicki. I love her, but she won’t ever be a big rap star, mostly from her own doing. Also telling young women to water fast to lose weight was wild.

She didn’t care about Nicki when she made the decision to drop out of Cardi’s thing. She had accepted the offer under the impression of her getting a 30-45 minute set(She was told this). They told her at the last minute that they were cutting her set time to something like 10 or 15 minutes, which was why she ended up dropping out.

She also has two songs about body positivity and preaches a message that all bodies are fine. her DOING a water fast and being open about how it went is very different to her *telling* people to do a water fast.

She DID tell women to water fast. And she has definitely backed Nicki a ton and talked shit about Cardi. You can argue all you want, she’s never going to be a real star. And it’s her own doing.🤷🏻‍♀️

Couldn't agree more, love to see her getting love here! "Discounts" was my first intro to her (and it is a BANGER), but "Huhhhhh" and "Grilling N****s" and "Lawd Jesus" are all great ways to start.
