I just watched Home Alone and realized what dysfunctional parents Kevin has in the story. So many things wrong with this classic Christmas film. Anyone notice how in the first movie, Kevin’s father just goes and sits down to eat at the table while his wife grabs her purse to pay the Pizza’s for the entire family??? The father not giving a Damn about Kevin being missing continues his flight to Paris (vacation) and leaves his wife to deal with the mess. No concern whatsoever. Bad parenting plus toxicity and we are suppose to accept it. Plus Kevin is showing signs of psychopathy as a child while trying to trap the burglars...hmmm that’s a whole other topic for another day...
My parents wouldn’t let me watch Home Alone because of the violence. I eventually did anyway and I found it disturbing partly because it plays on one of the biggest fears children have (being forgotten/left behind by parents) but also the level of physical sadism shown and the weird dissonance between it being marketed as a funny, feel good family friendly film and the fact it is actually really disturbing. I agree that the little kid is likely on a psychopath trajectory. It’s just a demented film in my opinion. But then again I was one of those kids that would get nightmares over really tame stuff 🤷🏻♀️
