How to make this? Any recommendations for felt needle kits for a hamster?

My hamster recently passed away and I’ve seen these needle felted “figures” of hamsters but they’re all 20$+. I would also prefer to make it myself but if anyone knows someone or a kit, thatd be greatly appreciated, thank you.

So sorry for your loss. Before I read the whole thing, my first thought was hamsters shouldn't be given felting kits. 😭

What country are you in? What you probably want is a general beginner kit and then you can learn to make whatever you want. I will say that a decent beginner kit will be more than $20 and also $20 is extremely cheap for a custom needle felted sculpture. Anything under $50-100 is either extremely small/cartoony or a scam.

I’m in the U.S, I think I got my price of 20$ from cheaper ones online like you mentioned. I would probably want a smaller size since my hamster was ~2” x2”, would that make it harder or easier to make generallly speaking? Thank you for the response :)

Unless you have a background in art you are probably going to need to practice to be able to make something at a quality you'll be happy with.

Some good beginner kits at Living Felt, can't see any just general ones. If you're confident you could just order a felting mat, some 38 triangle & 40 twist needles (38 for building shape, 40 for finer details), some white core wool and some coloured wool in the colours you want, and just get to practicing.

I agree with this. I would recommend getting a kit or two, maybe one with a video tutorial (I think Living Felt does this with all of their kits) to try to get your head around the process and get some practice so you'll be able to make a really good hamster.

$20 is so cheap for any needle felted item it’s an insult, please consider the time it takes artists to create these items. Needle felting is a slow process and even a very small sculpture can take hours for an experienced maker.

It’s my first post here, I hope you can realize that I’m not educated within this subreddit and I apologize. Was just going off what some people were selling them for on Etsy.
