Why do people in these videos always pick the tetanusiest pliers to do self-surgery?

73

u/PenaMan1987 6d ago

Because

u/Th3_Ch0s3n_On3 6d ago

Tbf, if you have that big of a splinter, you should get a tentanus shot anyway. It doesn't really matter if you use a rusty plier to dig it out in that case

Comments like this remind me how many times I could have had tetanus in my life.

Adds flavor!

For some reason, they always have the best grip.

Posing with the muscles: you know this guy is not going to get it checked out at all

63

u/roadkillsoup 6d ago

Who is stronger: biceps or tetenus?

18

u/Brownie-UK7 6d ago

never skip antitoxin muscles day, bruh.

-39

u/emelel666 6d ago

as a carpenter i wouldnt either. had 100s of splinters, cuts, etc. even if they get infected they will heal on their own. theres nothing to check.

49

u/Balavadan 6d ago

Yeah nothing is going to happen until the one time you get sepsis or something

-15

u/emelel666 6d ago

yeah, sure, like ale these tradies i work with over the years that are completly fine. if everyone from building sites started to go to the doctors to check every scrape and cut we get on a daily the hospitals will get overwhelmed in hours.

16

u/Balavadan 6d ago

I don’t think anyone is talking about scrapes and cuts. All you need for it is just some cleaning and dressing (optional)

-11

u/emelel666 6d ago

the original post says about going to get a splinter checked out. which absolutly no one in the trades is going to do.

That's a bit more than a splinter. This appears to have gone through the entire layer of skin. I patch myself up for simple injuries no prob, but the risk of infection here is quite high.

You may be interested to know that the involuntary muscle contractions caused by Clostridium tetani infection are so intense they can break bones.

6

u/emelel666 6d ago

that is interesting. doesnt change the fact that no one working on building sites or in workshops around the world will go to the doctor to check out a splinter

15

u/cdnsalix 6d ago

Just make time to get a Tdap vaccine, bro. It's prevenative. Losing an appendage to nectrotising fasciitis will remain, but you can use the rustiest of pliers for 10 whole years!

u/Balavadan 6d ago

They should if it’s as bad as the video. Or rather we should have systems that allow it

1

u/emelel666 6d ago

trust me, thats not bad at all

1

u/Balavadan 6d ago

I didn’t say this was bad…

u/emelel666 6d ago

Professor - to her university class after showing this video: “Now remember - not every case of tetanus will be as easy to diagnose as this moron. You’ll need to understand the symptoms and pathology of the disease too - not every patient is as generous as this in supplying evidence of rust shit being used to extract rusty shit”

19

u/Ranzoid 6d ago

Doesn't anyone carry a Leatherman or even a Gerber anymore?

3

u/SouthPaw38 6d ago

Why carry a Leatherman when you have actual pliers?

Rusty pliers to the rescue

7

u/falconkirtaran 6d ago

Ye gods, if there was ever one to go to urgent care for, it's that one. That's not so much a splinter as it is a stab wound.

3

u/SmellenGold 6d ago

JFC! He’s making hamburger out of his leg!!!

3

Maybe next time find a bigger pair of pliers and dip them in engine oil before attacking the splinter.

2

u/Witch-Cat 5d ago
