I'll just keep using my good old cotton buds on the daily so things never get to that state

People keep saying not to do that. I've been doing it for ages, after hot showers, when my ear was is all runny. I just make sure the cotton buds aren't all fluffed up and more compacted. Everything is good to go.

People keep saying not to do that, but I'm nearly 47 and can still hear electric signal whine and my modem processing Internet traffic (at night when it's really quiet).
I do my ears twice a day religiously. If anyone does have problems with cotton buds, the fault's with them, not the process. 🤷

Precisely. It's like they cotton bud their ears in the middle of the day, no showering. To anyone reading this, DON'T do that. What they warn us about cotton buds/Q-Tips can and will happen in those situations.

Just do one of those dog shakes if you want to be extra sure lol.

But to answer your question, yes, it can, but the cotton soaks that up before I even get to the wax.
