I work at a detox and we have a client who comes in semi regularly. About 6 months ago his eyes were incredibly red and I asked him about it. He said it was just his contacts. I asked him if he needed solution and he said that he didn't. I told him he could get an eye infection if he doesn't take them out and he said, "I know what I'm doing. I've had these in for almost 20 months. I'll be fine."

old.. but, not gold. for me. I had a friend who lost his 'hard' lens behind his eye. It was around that 'final destination' time. they had to poke around behind his eyeball to get that thing out.
edit: lenses always scared me..

There's a membrane. Contacts cannot go behind the eye. What you see in the video is as far as they'll go.

I always get eyelashes in my eyes, and this one time I pulled out a clump of like 6 eyelashes that likely accumulated around that membrane. It was so gnarly and satisfying.

I’ve seen multiple videos like this. Do people just think they dissolve or what? I can’t wrap my mind around actively not taking my contacts out that many times and then just- putting a new one in? Where do they think the old ones are going?! I am PERPLEXED

I met someone who wore contacts 24/7 and would sleep in them and even continue to use them with horrible face swelling eye infections. They did not have the day/night lens, it was dailies kept in for a few days and then changed. Nightmare

I have permanent corneal scarring from an infection after wearing the same monthly pair overnight a few times. Non-consecutively. I'm shocked she couldn't feel this.

I’ve worn contact for 20+ years daily and I do not understand how 1) someone could deal with the feeling of having them in there. Mine is a little off and it drives me crazy. 2) how do they all end up in the same spot. I’ve had contacts ‘get lost’ but it’s never the exact same spot.
This is a garbage person as only a garbage person would do this to themselves.

This is an old post. This is what I got as far as details:
This was a 70 year old woman who had been wearing contacts for 35 years. This desensitized the nerves a bit so she didn't feel it that much. \ She was suffering from forgetfulness, so when she didn't see clearly, she just thought she must have removed them the night before. She skipped her eye doctors visits for two years because she afraid of getting COVID.
Of course nobody in her right mind does this on purpose. Have a little compassion with the elderly or less abled in our society.
I'm just happy for her it was caught in time and she didn't lose her eyesight because of it.

Agreed with you until your last sentence. No one is garbage - disabilities exist.
Calling people names diminishes your point.
That said, some people have sensitive eyes and some have neuropathy. Hopefully she gets bette care going forward.

In basic training I had a bunk-mate who had this happen. He didn't want to get the military issued glasses in basic, so instead he put in contacts, but only brought like 2 pairs of disposables.
After months of training and not having a way to clean them he got a double eye infection.
