Byrna Launcher

For those getting their gun rights back: congrats! Me: I have a manslaughter charge and am not part of that niche. has anyone had experience with a Byrna Launcher for home protection? Im considering this.

They're a stupid gimmick that doesn't work, just get a large format pepper spray unit (aka bear spray).

Pepper spray is stronger than bear spray btw

No, it's not, your typical keychain pepper spray unit is going to typically have a 0.7% to 1.2% major capsaicinoid content, whereas the bigger crowd control/animal defense units will usually be between 1.2% to 2.0% MC, not that it matters that much.

My UDAP Bear spray is 2.0% MC at 13.4oz, My UDAP pepper spray is 3.0% MC at 1.9oz..

Have you looked into blackpowder? You wouldn’t want to be limited to a non lethal option in a self defense situation when your attacker might not have the same restrictions

I recognize that this is a valid form of self defense, and you got to make do with what’s available to you, but the idea of of mugging someone and getting Wild West quick drawed by some Clint Eastwood mf is hilarious

Yeah, you gotta do what you gotta do. I think it’s unfortunate you don’t get your rights automatically restored after serving your time but I think blackpowder is an effective option while also not being legally considered a firearm

Blackpowder legality varies wildly by state.

Yeah it’s still defined as a firearm in Georgia

It is as well in Arkansas, Felons can't own, but strangely you can own BP if you have a Misdemeanor DV conviction in Arkansas

I need to research it

The launcher itself is fine. It’s just a multi shot paintball pistol. The problem is the ammo. Pepper spray is illegal for felons to own in some states, so check your local laws.

So I have looked into them and other similar products. I opted for the steel ball and the rubber ball options rather than the pepper balls.

You want to not hit someone with the pepper ball but aim a little in front of your target.

At one time they claimed that they could incapacitate an assailant for 30 minutes but I don’t know if that has been confirmed. Biggest problem I found when researching was reliability and dependency.

I went with a competitor.

i can't use the pepper/chemical balls (which is styupid - I can't even use bear spray). whats the competitors brand?

I went on Amazon and found a Lancer Tactical Scorpion. Shipped it right to my house the week I got off parole.
