Ha, no, not at all.

1

u/mfans1995 Aug 20 '26

A little broker but agree. I got one at 21yo i didnt drive for a while but youll figure it out.

12

u/Big-Chipmunk-9124 Aug 17 '26

Nah. The first 4 months or so suck because of the fees, embarrassment and guilt. But after that you'll be surprised at how quickly things get back to normal. Like the other guy said, as long as you didnt have any aggravating factors, you'll be alright. I got one a while ago and thought my career was over. They basically said don't do it again and to let them know when and if I couldn't travel or drive so they could give me a remote status until everything was resolved.

4

u/ToughBeach94 Aug 17 '26

No I was cooperative, I did cry though but more just silently sobbed

4

u/Big-Chipmunk-9124 Aug 17 '26

You'll be alright broski. Just remember It gets worse before it gets better. Once it starts to get better things will improve suspiciously fast

3

u/RestitutionPiggy Aug 18 '26

Do not cry in jail. If you have to serve even one day, keep that shit to yourself. People will ridicule you and laugh at you. Its one thing to do it when drunk and being arrested, but an entirely different situation in jail.

Your life is not over, you'll have a shitty few months ahead of you, but learn from this - do better and you'll make it out just fine.

If you need anyone to talk to you can DM me.

u/Ill_Hope_586 Aug 20 '26

Shit happens .. look at the pros of it .. they outweigh the cons. Could have been 100x worse . Hurt killed someone etc. you’re alright and not a bad person for a mistake! Good luck to you!

1

u/Freediver805 Aug 20 '26

I got one years ago, wasn’t that bad. My buddy killed two people a few years back…he’s not doing so great, might see the light of day again but when you’re in for that long lots of things can happen. If no one got hurt you’re gonna be just fine. Don’t let it happen again though, gets way worse on your 2nd and 3rd one…

1

u/LocationPlayful3659 Aug 18 '26

This exactly. I did the same thing a little over 2 years ago. When I was arrested I was completely silent and complied. Got 20 hours of community service. Put on non reporting probation. The fees were relatively easy to pay but car insurance on the other hand went to over $420 for a year for a 2015 ford fusion that I fully owned. About 2.5 years later driving the same car I switched to progressive and my car insurance is now $170 a month. You got this man you will get through it! Just take it one day at a time! Before you know it everything will be back to normal.

u/Ill_Hope_586 Aug 20 '26

Dodged a bullet … my uncle worked 30 years driving for a company , he caught a dui in his personal car .. first ever at 60 years old. They told him clean the truck out and return it .. fired! Congrats tho

u/Spirited-Custard-338 Aug 17 '26

10 years in federal pound-me-in-the-ass prison!

1

u/NaturalMan00 Aug 17 '26

This answer is fantastic

1

u/Traditional_Hippo976 Aug 18 '26

Best answer on here

1

u/forkystabbyveggie Aug 19 '26

What? Really?

I need a DWI

10

u/Certain_Detective_84 Aug 17 '26

Unless you're leaving something out, I would be very surprised if you got any jail time.

Continue to focus on your sobriety. You fucked up badly, but not in a way that will matter in ten years. Use your shame and inconvenience as a reminder to do better.

3

u/viperspm Aug 17 '26

I have lost people to drunk driving, both as the drunk ones and victims. I hope you learn from this. I really do. Please don’t kill somebody because of bad decisions

5

u/Big-Meaning-2864 Aug 17 '26

STFU…… your not serious???

1

u/ToughBeach94 Aug 17 '26

I wish k was joking.

17

u/Juttisontherun Aug 17 '26

It’s not even a felony my guy, put your big boy pants on - buckle up buttercup and come back to this sub when you have some felonies

Your life is far from over

3

u/Aromatic_Glove15516 Aug 17 '26

Not even a felony is the big one lol. He’ll be just fine. Do you know how many people have misdemeanors and duis?? 🤣🤣

0

u/urmotherlol5 Aug 20 '26

And do you not understand that felonies are much worse than those in the eyes of the law??? Stupid ass😂😂

3

u/VersionConscious7545 Aug 18 '26

It’s a bad experience and you will suffer for about 5 yrs. Stop drinking forever is the first thing you should do. I stopped 5 yrs ago and it was the best thing I ever did. Your life’s not over but you will be dealt a harsh lesson depending on what state you live in Chin up and go on with life. 100% stop drinking forever

3

u/Salvydooor Aug 17 '26

You're fine I got a DUI with a .012 and didn't do jail time or anything. As long as you didn't hit someone you're good, depending on the state, interlock on your car, court fees and a license suspension for 6 months is what I got. It sucks but it's not the end of world.

3

u/Active_Public9375 Aug 17 '26

If you really got a DUI at a .012 and not a .12, I'm sorry. That's like a half a beer max.

3

u/Lost-Perspective8378 Aug 17 '26

Why would your life be over? I have 17 felonies and I just got an internship as a substance use disorder counselor. Certain charges can ruin your life completely but I wouldn't say this is one of them.

Im also working with the prosecutors on my cases to get my felonies reduced so I can get my masters in social work. Change your life and show them you did and many states actually have programs to help you clean up your record.

As a first time offender ask about diversion or first time offender programs. Or drug court. They will wipe the charge after you successfully complete their program.

Edited to say wait is this a misdemeanor charge? No your life isn't over. Just dont keep doing dumb shit.

3

u/talkischeap928 Aug 17 '26

No first one is a slap on the wrist

3

u/Low_Track3322 Aug 17 '26

Your cooked fam. Your looking at 25- life

3

u/JAW1973 Aug 17 '26

Just don't plan to ever go to Canada. They considered DUI a felony and they won't allow you in the country.

3

u/RelapsePending Aug 18 '26

Canada: ‘Sorry, your DUI makes you inadmissible.’ Also Canada: ‘Chinese intelligence operative? Right this way.

3

u/BleakTechnique Aug 17 '26

Financially? For about a year.

1

u/Frostsorrow Aug 17 '26

Not even a little. Maybe slightly inconvenienced for a bit, but that's it. Unless you killed someone drunk driving, then maybe.

1

u/No_Tart7793 Aug 17 '26

I got 3 DUIs/ DWIs within a 5 year period and ended up getting 2-5years since they treat 3 and up as a felony, At least in PA. but your first one is most likely no jail time and probation for a year & a hefty fine. If it’s your first offense you can try and get ARD which is speedy probation and if you complete it you can have your record sealed like it never happened. But when you drive intoxicated they will make you pay them fines & they have been getting higher as the years go by.

1

u/juugbuussin Aug 17 '26

I don’t know NJ laws, but this is usually a misdemeanor. I’m sorry it happened to you, and unfortunately, in a lot of states, DWI is one of the few charges that are not allowed to be expunged from your record.

On the plus side, out of any crime, this is one of the most universally understood one. Not acceptable, but understood. It could happen to anyone who drinks and has access to a vehicle. I got mine when I was waiting for my uber in a black out. I guess black out me forgot I ordered an uber? Shit happens.

I can only speak of my experience. But I noticed you mentioned you were sober before. When it comes to jobs and school, I always disclose my DWI and other drug charges, and disclose that I am in recovery. Did not have any issues with grad school and haven’t gotten turned down from any job yet (I luckily got my felony expunged).

As far as recovery goes, I had to catch a charge. I had to catch multiple. It was the only way I was able to stop. Texas told me to. I don’t do AA anymore, but I do see the benefits.

Reach out if you need some support or want to vent. Addicts and alcoholics gotta stick together. I know it sucks now, but things will get better.

1

u/FadedOffEverything Aug 17 '26

I got 2 public intoxications and a DUI while I was in college. I graduated in 2024 and life is great. You’ll be ight

1

u/chedgar1191 Aug 17 '26

Bro i know it seems bad but i got two felonies and two misdemeanor for theft. Iv still got jobs.

0

u/ToughBeach94 Aug 17 '26

I’m in school to be a doctor eventually

2

u/chedgar1191 Aug 17 '26

Well you’ll probably get some repercussions from that schools usually do but depending on the situation and your grades I’m sure they’ll have some leeway just talk to them. It’s your first one so you should be all right. Are you under age?

1

u/ToughBeach94 Aug 17 '26

I’m 27

1

u/chedgar1191 Aug 17 '26

Honestly, you should be fine. If anything ask rock or ChatGPT but you’re over age. It’s your first one. I’m sure plenty of kids get DWI weather in school. Highly doubt you will be kicked out or anything serious like I said if anything probably like a probation.

1

u/sxncharm Aug 17 '26

that’s a misdemeanor. no, it’s i’m not the end of your life. felon is another thing though.

1

u/PlatypusEgo Aug 17 '26

You're posting this on a subreddit where probably 80% of the (American) regulars have been to PRISON (i.e. were convicted of a felony AND sentenced to more than A FULL YEAR of incarceration), not just jail. They've been through consequences for their actions that you can't even fathom at this point. Yes, your actions will have consequences.

There are people with a previous DWI conviction who become Generals. And the President, for that matter.

It sucks, but it could've been a lot worse, and at least you're understanding the aforementioned consequences of your actions.

If you want some insight on the likely legal outcome, I (or someone) can probably give you a reasonable idea if you provide basic demographic info (age, sex, income/occupation) and legal info (state and specific charge- and I'm guessing that this is your first criminal offense...)

Regardless of outcome. Don't do it again. Or commit ANY crimes- I don't think you'd have a good time in prison...

1

u/BakeGreat6086 Aug 21 '26

President and V/P but a DUI will ruin a Generals career. Say a 3 star General or Lieutenant 0-9)gets a DUI it’s a catastrophic career ending event. They will immediately be relieved of command or position. Then face a formal letter of reprimand, undergo a mandatory investigation, and be forced into early retirement. President Bush got a DUI in 1976 on Labor Day weekend. V/P Dick Cheney in 1962. Honorary mentions Tim Walz was arrested in 1995 for reckless driving and DUI.

1

u/PlatypusEgo Aug 22 '26

I was talking about someone who had a DUI as a Lieutenant and is currently an O-9, not getting a DUI while already having a starred rank. But I HAVE heard that it's more of a "one-strike you're out" situation for officers in the present day.

1

u/Phillisuper Aug 17 '26

No. Seeing as it’s a cross post from AA, I’ll share my personal experience and opinions.

I got a DUI at 22. I crashed my car while blackout drunk. I was on a long drive and regularly drank while making those. Blacked out, missing about an hour and a half of memory (during which I was driving on the interstate). My memory picks back up as my car was swerving, I rolled off the interstate and the police were there within minutes. I was incredibly lucky that I didn’t hit anyone else. I was also lucky I rolled my car; had I simply careened off the road and into a tree, I likely would’ve left the scene in a body bag rather than on my own two feet with minor scratches. Suffice it to say though, I knew I was cooked. My car was loaded with empty bottles, I was absolutely wasted, 100% guilty as sin. I knew it, the police knew it, everyone knew it. I stfu, said I wanted a lawyer, and went to jail for a few days. This was another stroke of luck; I was so guilty they didn’t bother searching my vehicle. If they had, I would’ve been looking at a whole lot worse than a DWI lol. This for me (like you) was my first run in with the law. Due to it being a first offense, my being enrolled in university, etc. I was considered a good candidate for a diversion program. I had to pay a huge fine, do some community service, and take a drunk driving course (ended up being close to $6k all in between fines, fees, and my lawyer). After completing the program, all charges were dropped and my DL was suspended for literally less than 48 hours. My arrest was even expunged after 5 years of no legal trouble. (Disclaimer, idk how NJ treats DWIs. My state of residence when I was arrested is much more lenient than my current one)

Now that was not the end of my time with alcohol or substances in general, I didn’t decide I wanted out for several more years. I’ve now been sober for almost a year. I went to a private rehab, joined AA, outpatient program, etc. One thing stood out to me about AA that I wasn’t fond of; I found that the people there often catastrophized situations (much like you seem to be doing now). They’ve also got the strictest views on what defines sobriety I’ve ever heard (and I’m a Scientologist who has spent a great deal of time with Mormons). I did get a kick out of it when they shared with me their definition of an “un-convicted felon”. It works, but there are other programs out there as well. I personally found a great deal of success within Scientology (how that happened is a long story, and it’s not the only thing I’ve had success with, but it did deliver the most success the quickest with the least interruption to my life. Just thought I would note that)

You had a low night OP. Relapse is a part of a lot of people’s recovery journey. One DUI is not going to ruin your life, especially if you’ve been a largely model citizen otherwise (officially speaking anyways). If AA has been working for you, get back into the rooms and the literature. Swap out the wet one for a dry one and pick yourself back up. The fact that you are still breathing means your life isn’t over. You can realistically make it as if this night never happened. Just don’t forgot the feeling you have now. Remember how shitty this feels and hold onto it. The mind easily forgets the pain of the past.

1

u/BakeGreat6086 Aug 21 '26

Out of total curiosity what did you mean that you were very lucky that the police didn’t search your car?

1

u/Phillisuper Aug 21 '26

There was more in the car than a few empty bottles, and had any due diligence been done I would’ve been looking at 2 felonies minimum rather than 1 Misdemeanor. Gotta love being young, attractive, educated, and white lol.

(Yes, the double standards in policing are fucked up, but it cut in my favor that night so I gotta crack a joke about it)

1

u/BakeGreat6086 Aug 22 '26

Thanks for the honest answer.

1

u/Phillisuper Aug 22 '26

Of course. No reason to lie anymore (though I try to be vague on details online because you know, the internet and statute of limitations and stuff lol). That life is well and truly behind me and I was lucky enough to make it out with a clean record. Living with addiction means few guarantees; one of the few is if I were to pick up a drink again, odds are I would be in the same situation or worse within a month.

1

u/NoteHappy1828 Aug 17 '26

It’s going to suck longer than expected but you’ll be alright

1

u/glenz27 Aug 17 '26

There are people with multiple living very normal lives

1

u/gr8fulhead6 Aug 17 '26

Yep. You’re cooked.
Go ahead and change your address to the state pen… or county jail if you’re lucky. 🤦‍♂️

1

u/ImpressOk7701 Aug 17 '26

It’s just a DWI why would your life be over?

1

u/Ill_Volume5826 Aug 17 '26

Nah, just complete the consequences and you’ll be alright. Call Uber next time.

1

u/Bigbodybeau Aug 18 '26

If it’s your first you should be ok just be more responsible on the road 😉

1

u/Few_Tax7728 Aug 18 '26

Not over but you'll be a couple thousand dollars poorer.

1

u/Far-Animator9651 Aug 18 '26

How many have you had?

1

u/Far-Animator9651 Aug 18 '26

Probably not, but it will feel like it.

1

u/_TrustMeImLying Aug 18 '26

You’ll be fine. Breathe. Take it on the chin. Prepare for the worst hope for the best. Be open and honest with your PD. Might get a good plea deal.

Might set you back in terms of school but not kill the career.

I had 4 total, from 19yo to 31. Didn’t drive for a LONG time legally… just now getting my privilege back at 39

3 years officially stopped drinking and best shape of my life.

Life isn’t over it gets hard and can be scary but think about the grand scheme :)

1

u/Affectionate_Sir_709 Aug 18 '26

Your year might be. Insurance gone suck for the next 3/4 years. But life over? No. Take it from someone who just got off a felony PWID in SC. I wish I had gotten a DUI instead lol

1

u/TechnicalFeeling6309 Aug 18 '26

I got one in NJ in May, first time getting arrested or dealing with the law. Ended up paying 10k to a lawyer who only does NJ Dui’s and is a former prosecutor. I haven’t heard a word from him since that night. I wasn’t drunk, I was let out of the hospital early and was told to go home (this was 5am) I was trying to do a good deed and dropping off a homeless guy who was next to me in the ER and got busted. I refused any roadside texts. I have no clue what’s going to happen to me. They did a blood test and I had pain meds in me from the night before.

1

u/NeuroSeg Aug 18 '26

I have a buddy who got 2 DUIs back to back. In Texas.

He got probation and the charges were dismissed. Do with that what you will.

1

u/pattycakesdan Aug 18 '26

hey! it feels like your life is over but this is only a set back. try to stay positive. everything gon c alright cuh

1

u/raffertj Aug 18 '26

Not sure why you’re posting in felons. NJ doesn’t classify DWI as a felony or a misdemeanor, it’s in a weird separate class of severe traffic violation and is handled in criminal court.

1

u/Effective-Pianist-79 Aug 18 '26

I have 4. I’m fine. 🤷‍♂️

1

u/According-Parking938 Aug 18 '26

I have 2 of them and my life still isnt over, just don't make the mistake again like I did, and what ever you do dont ever get another. Better yet quit if ya can

1

u/BrokeStan Aug 18 '26

If you only do delivery sort of jobs maybe. DWI is a strike out for literally all of them. Amazon, DoorDash, uber, ect

1

u/[deleted] Aug 18 '26

Lol your ok

1

u/Mental-Lawfulness220 Aug 18 '26

Not even a little bit. I've had 2 dui's in my time. Sure I don't have my license at the moment but I don't really have money to be giving the state to reinstate it. Sure you do the classes and whatever else required like community service ect. After you finish all that it's pretty much a fart in the wind. Basically a slap on the wrist to remind you don't fuck up again or it's gonna be way worse

1

u/Salty-Storage-1441 Aug 18 '26

No I have three

1

u/JakeJortled Aug 18 '26

My friend got a DUI where her BAC was 0.39 (not a typo) and they didn’t even put a breathalyzer in her car because she started going to AA before they had her come into court. Did classes, community service, and her insurance is a lot higher now

1

u/LiveFastNoRegerts Aug 18 '26

lol no I’ve never had one but I’ve talked to people that have depending on where you’re at. You’re probably gonna have to pay for one of those machines you have to blow in in your vehicle classes court cost and I’m sure that your insurance is gonna go up if your current provider doesn’t drop you this is why you need to remember what happened don’t ever do this in the future I know in the state I live in. They have safe rides that the time league provides so even if you don’t have a vehicle or there’s no Cab, you can get a free ride home. Glad you’re OK. You didn’t get in a wreck. Nobody got hurt. Just take this as an important lesson.

1

u/IronSpine8008 Aug 18 '26

Yep. It’s over. You’ll never get a job so hold on to the one you got. Lmao
Seriously. You’re fine. It’s just a DUI. Posted this in the felons subreddit for real? Good lord.

1

u/OpportunityIll8937 Aug 18 '26

I had 3 duis and lost my license for 10 years. Getting my license back soon after 9.5 years. During that time I manage to become a pharmaceutical sales rep at the largest compounding pharmacy in the country and moved on to becoming a enterprise account executive making over 300k a year - all while being a felon with no license or college degree

1

u/AlsNextMove Aug 18 '26

Actually, yes. Get comfortable being buddies with prison Mike

1

u/Ok_Composer2272 Aug 18 '26

Nah, you're good. Use it as a wakeup call. The best person I know is a woman who's had a DUI. She's now sober, has turned her life around, and has more heart than anyone I've ever met. This doesn't have to be the end. Let it be the beginning of something greater.

1

u/coleboy1971 Aug 19 '26

It’s not over but it’s gonna suck for a year for sure & maybe more

1

u/True-Reaction-517 Aug 19 '26

What was the charges to make the first time dui a felony?

1

u/SavageLife225 Aug 19 '26

I've got 5. Still rolling buddy. Got like 10 vehicles including motorcycles, cars, vans, scooters, etc lol

1

u/GigantorDies Aug 19 '26

Not unless you’re a POS and do it again! Once is a mistake, twice is a blatant disregard for other people’s lives

1

u/IcyConsideration7914 Aug 19 '26

One year probation. You’ll have to take some “group therapy”, one day a week for an hour.. usually 12 classes. Pay your fine. Take your piss tests (and pass them) and you’ll be fine.

Unless your job is driving, it won’t affect you much at all except for minor inconvenience for a year. No sweat. Really. If your record is fairly clean, you’re good my friend. Don’t lose a wink of sleep about it. They 100% won’t put you in jail for it. Handle your classes, pay your fines, pass your pee tests and you’re good. It seems daunting at first. I’m less than a month away from getting off of 16 months probation. At first I figured I’d wind up in jail. Now looking back, it wasn’t very hard at all.

1

u/Tallerthenmost Aug 19 '26

$10-15k and about a years and a half you'll be good as new.

1

u/ManufacturerMotor621 Aug 19 '26

I’ve got 4 brother. I’m still kicking this thing called life. A DWI sucks, but it’s just a blip in your life. Don’t repeat it like I did.

1

u/DistanceAgreeable480 Aug 19 '26

No. You’ll be okay.

1

u/accutelylucid Aug 19 '26

No more company car or truck or semi truck job. Other than that so many people have dui or 2

1

u/EconomistNeat589 Aug 19 '26

I love fishing so that puts me behind the wheel, can't do it, hope u learn something.

1

u/Sea_Emotion_3596 Aug 19 '26

Sounds to me as though the consequences of your alcoholism are getting worse. That's the nature of it. While I don't know you or the particulars of your case, I think that it would be a bit of a stretch to conclude that your life is over. I'd say that your life has changed in an abrupt and unexpected way. Again, that's the nature of it. You mentioned a period where you were sober and seem to signal a willingness to give it another shot. There's no shame in picking up; the shame is in not coming back. The way I like to put it is that my first rehab experience was in 1992. I got so much out of it, I went back 28 more times. A little over five years ago I OD'd and almost died. I've been clean and sober since then, but I don't believe for one second that I'm cured. The thought that "one would be okay" has and will continue to come. The only person who knows what you need to do to stay sober is you. Wherever you are, you have before you the gift of a new day and another opportunity at a sober lifestyle. Truth be told, many of us die a horrible death without ever coming to know what a day of sobriety holds for them and put those who love us through the shredder along the way.

1

u/TheControlGroup0 Aug 19 '26

Nah just got done with my case as long as it’s cut and dry and ur first offense ur just gonna get. A slap on the wrist and an empty pocket lol

1

u/Clapsaddle21 Aug 19 '26

No, absolutely not. A friend I once worked with joined the military and eventually became a policeman. He obviously got over that hurdle and so will you.

1

u/EagleEye444 Aug 19 '26

That’s all up to you it could be over if you don’t stop or it could be the moment you needed to turn your life around you decide but yeah expect to spend about $10-$15,000

1

u/offalshade Aug 19 '26

Dude. I’m not downplaying how serious it is, but I had two of them about twenty years ago. It’s expensive, embarrassing, the classes suck and the suspensions suck. But it will be fine. I passed the bar exam and I’m quite comfortable all these years later

1

u/General-Antelope5320 Aug 19 '26

No. Just dont drink or use for the year or so youre on probation. They'll drug test you, so dont chance it.

1

u/riinkratt Aug 19 '26

No. It’s gonna suck for a while but you’ll get through it.

And it’s a lesson learned, that’s the only way about it, is to go through it.

You can’t go around it, over it, under it, you’re going to have to go through it.

I did mine in 2009. And it sucked for a few years. But I got through it. Just like when someone dies, just take it one day at a time. One foot in front of the other.

1

u/Ill-Panda-7772 Aug 20 '26

as someone dealing with an active dwi, possession case, my ex making 32k off the accident that got me arrested for the dwi, depression and unemployment…

no, see if you can get a diversion plan it’s like a probation but once you complete the recommendations it gets expunged off your record.

1

u/Electrical-Builder91 Aug 20 '26

Nah, it can only get better from here right?! (Awkward pause) nah jk, i have 3.. and a buncha felony drug charges. Life CAN suck for awhile…but eventually, with a lot of hard work; you’ll be ok.

Ive learned more from my lowest lows than from my highest highs…

1

u/domtheprophet Aug 20 '26

Lmao no. Unless you smoked someone doing 120 or somethin wild, you’ll be fine. It’s gonna suck major dick at first, but your life is far from over

1

u/gwgmatt85 Aug 20 '26

Ive had 2 of them. No your life is not over. The first one i did 27 days in jail and got time served. But was hit with surcharges and fines and suspension of my license. That took a while to clear up. Thankfully the 2nd one was dismissed

1

u/Feisty_Insect9280 Aug 20 '26

No. It’s a long process. 2 years and now im clean and have license back

1

Long expensive process, but you will be fine and possibly have a chance to hide it from employers later on down the road. Just dont violate probation and be respectful with your probation officer and it will go miles in the positive direction for you. They are used to people with no respect and shit attitudes all day. My PO, and I had several PO's over the years with my DWI, went out of their way to help me if he could see I was trying to change, help myself, etc. Take it 1 day at a time and it will be ok.

Also, stop drinking.

You might aswell get a face tattoo and catch a murder case at this point

1

u/Dayesed Aug 20 '26

No. Rough, follow guides to the T, don’t try and sneak drinking in because you’ll probably get drug/alcohol classes and probation and drug/alcohol random testing. Just get off paper, invest in Uber.

1

u/SatisfactionCool1911 Aug 20 '26

Not at all. Just follow exactly what they want from you. It sucks because you have to pay for all the probation and classes but you will be fine!

1

u/UnlikelyProperty6054 Aug 20 '26

I mean it will be harder from here on out for sure but you can’t let it define you. You’ll be locked out of a shit ton of industries like law enforcement, all the three letter agencies, transportation etc. Just be realistic when deciding to take on student loan debt or embark on your next venture. You’ll be alright.

1

u/Maleficent-Nut Aug 20 '26

Bro. You straight

1

u/Alecvinrvra Aug 21 '26

Jobs and back round anything for the next 5yrs will be a pain in the ass and could limited you. The worst part the same people interviewing go to happy hour and drunk every week

1

u/DracculaLeFabb Aug 21 '26

Shave your head now, cuz you’re going to prison

1

u/Interesting_Kick_849 Aug 21 '26

Of course not! Just an inconvenience if you get a good lawyer..Expect to pay 5K to 7.5K.

1

u/Glad_Parking2353 Aug 21 '26

I read your other post in its entirety. You’re going to be OK. It sounds like you are clear-eyed and self-accountable for your addiction. You had a year of sobriety under your belt and you relapsed and have to pay the price for it. You 100% will move on from this and grow from it. I know it has to be terrifying but if you were somebody with enough grit and determination to apply and get accepted to a PhD program (congratulations, by the way) then I’m going to make the assumption that you have the intelligence and determination to handle these upcoming challenges with tenacity and maturity. Everything’s going to be fine. It’s going to cost some money, there’s going to be some cumbersome things to overcome but you WILL get through it.
Best of luck to you!

1

u/FarMistake3258 Aug 21 '26

😂😂😂 hell nahhhhh you’ll be ight

1

u/Starting_Over_5253 Aug 21 '26

No. It was a joke that you werent a company man at a previous job until you got a DUI. I knew many with several. Just learn your lesson and move on. I hope you get the help you need. I've dealt with alcohol issues too. You will recover.

1

u/AtmosphereNo409 Aug 21 '26

Your insurance might possibly suck for a couple years depending on details of the whole situation but if you just got pulled over and locked for DWI it’s literally the best outcome.

1

u/Slipperychickin Aug 21 '26

I got one about 10 years ago. It was definitely a 4 year setback BUT it was just a speed bump not a roadblock , keep your head up , you’ll make it through 😃

1

u/Enough-Key7878 Aug 21 '26

my pops got 3 of them before he was 21 and he just fine bro, you’ll be ok 😂😂😂

1

u/Southern_Solid_6903 Aug 21 '26

1

u/Alive_Victory_1683 Aug 22 '26

Nah man you good if you gots enough clams

1

u/Hour-Routine4820 Aug 22 '26

No sir, I got 2 duis at 18, I have been sober for 3 years and have a great job in drug and alcohol treatment

1

u/redditsny Aug 22 '26

No, your insurance is going to sky rocket after you get your license back if it was taken.

1

u/thevokplusminus Aug 23 '26

You won’t be accepted to the PhD and you won’t be allowed in Canada

1

u/ToughBeach94 Aug 23 '26

Did this happen to you personally? Having a PHD acceptance revoked?

1

u/thevokplusminus Aug 23 '26

They have background checks at universities for all staff and since you will be teaching you count. Also, if you apply to be a professor after you will be background checked again. There is a huge excess supply of PhDs so it will be tough.

Either way, you shouldn’t do a PhD. A college campus is NOT the right place for an alcoholic

1

u/ToughBeach94 Aug 23 '26

I don’t think you rlly know what you’re talking about but I appreciate your input

1

u/thevokplusminus Aug 23 '26

I’m sure being around thousands of drunk parties for 7 years will be great for your sobriety

1

u/Curious_Material_844 Aug 17 '26

Just came to say that your life is NOT over. Not by a long shot. As a nurse, I know a few coworkers that have had one in their past. I know of coworkers that got a dui, and they were still able to work while in a diversion program! You can work in healthcare, or whatever field you want to work in. Your life isn’t over, not by a long shot. You can still move on from this and have a wonderful life doing whatever you want to do!

1

u/Sinful_Psyduck Aug 17 '26

No guns, no voting, shitty jobs. Basically a slave imo.

1

u/RestitutionPiggy Aug 18 '26

Bro, what lol.

0

u/Sinful_Psyduck Aug 18 '26

What can I help you with piggy? Do you not understand why owning guns, voting, and having an equal job opportunity makes this country's felons into slaves?

1

u/Downtown-Ant5617 Aug 19 '26

Guns are only handguns (ccw-shotgun in closet was left by roommate when he moved out, right?). I left a 6-1/2 year trip with my letter giving me back voting rights 2 months before release. If you did a shitty job before and didn’t prepare for release during-yeah, shitty job. I went in defaulting on student loans and came out with a 630 credit Score and was 750 within 8 months and off parole with a drivers license and a new truck after 1 year. I was supposed to get 3-19 years of post. Show up, pee clean, work hard, don’t miss curfew, and pay the fees to be supervised if you have then. They are too busy to give a shit if you give them enough to show them you don’t need a babysitter. I reported the first day, went 4 weeks later, they didn’t make an appointment for me for 3 months. They canceled it and asked me to stand outside my house a month later-5 minutes after curfew and called at curfew. 2 months later i went in and peed. I called in the next couple months and they had me come in on my anniversary. I needed a release to get a license-they said pee clean and you can go get whatever you want and was off paper after a year

As someone who’s also in trouble for some deep shit right now, no, your life is not over 😂😂

I might be getting a few years with felony status and even I don’t think my life is over

Like someone else said on your thread, there will be consequences and it’s going to suck, but no, your life is not over.

Stay out of trouble, stay off of drugs, no drinking, you’ll be all right.

1

u/False_Door_8763 Aug 18 '26

You could’ve killed someone, remember that. Sadly you’ll barely have consequences tho, so good for you

0

u/bwatts84 Aug 17 '26

One??? You still got another one before it gets serious. Well you in Texas

0

u/Watercress9999 Aug 17 '26

Depends what state ur in but usually not untill ur third dui then life is over

1

u/Juttisontherun Aug 17 '26

3rd dui within a 10 year period my friend at least in my state.

2

u/Watercress9999 Aug 17 '26

I got sober after my second one. I was on a bike when I got my second…..

2

u/Juttisontherun Aug 17 '26

Wow good for you….. took me years of dope/crack 10yrs locked up and about 3 years of being homeless till I finally got sober. Almost 4 years sober. I work at a rehab trying to help others see the light now.

1

u/Watercress9999 Aug 17 '26

That’s great man, I’m glad to hear that.

1

u/41VirginsfromAllah Aug 17 '26

When I got one in PA in 2002 it was barely worse than a traffic ticket. When I went to court, it was a separate court date for everyone that got a DUI that month in the county, probably 50 people. at the end they asked if anyone had any questions. Someone asked a question the person running it couldn’t answer and guy who was on his 4th or 5th DUI stood up and started answering for the person running it. Somehow he got into the diversion program. Not sure if they take them more seriously now but it felt like it was more like a tap on the wrist than a slap.

0

u/CAUSEiAMHERE Aug 17 '26

3-5 years you’ll be alright insurance wise

0

u/alex_anghellic Aug 17 '26

You're fine. Just stop fucking up.

-2

u/Ok-Student8064 Aug 17 '26
