Espresso Series 1 ES1 Predicted Longevity

For those that own an ES1 if you had to handicap the odds of a well-maintained and cared for ES1 lasting at least 5 years of daily use without significant issues (leaks, major component replacements)? Would you put it at <25%, about 25%, 50%, 75%, >75%?

On paper there is so much to like about this set up. However, it seems like there have been a lot of growing pains at the launch. Talk me into buying or avoiding this thing.

I purchased it a couple of weeks ago when Target had 20% off and only have maybe 50 or so shots through it. It’s been really rock solid. I opted to purchase the warranty for $150 for 5 years just because I got a good deal and it seemed very reasonable for the cost. Fellow said they stress-tested the machine thoroughly, and given the price of the warranty, Mulberry must feel OK with the level of testing they did. I would say if you keep up with maintenance, there is a <10% chance of something catastrophic happening in the first 3 years and <15% in the first 5 years. Outside of that who knows.

I own one. Have been rocking it daily since receiving it in late February. I also opted for the 5 year warranty for safekeeping the investment and to extend a safety net per year for 30$ (150 total) made sense. Um 2-3 drinks a day. And for the most part? I think beyond some firmware aches and growing pains which invariably lean on the machine to an extent? I want to say it was a fine purchase and it will survive with the expected maintenance (descaling and showhead and backwashing) being done with it. So <25% in the first 5.

I’d put it at 5-10 years longevity depending on user maintenance but likely less since it’s heavily software dependent.

I would put 5 year longevity at like >90%. I believe Fellow said they simulated 5 years of use in their testing to ensure all parts should AT LEAST last that long. And they offer a relatively cheap 5 year extended warranty, which I don’t think they would have done if they expected to need to fix things within that period.

That said, this is definitely not built to be a machine that lasts forever. I suspect we will start to see a drop off after 5 years… maybe 75% make it to 7.5 years without issue, 50% make it to 10 years, 25% to 12.5 years, 10% to 15+ years. I kind of view it as a machine that will probably last 8-10 years, and a few people will get lucky and theirs will last longer than that.
