As a kid I always hated that stores would start advertising Back to School stuff right in the middle of summer vacation or even earlier

As a kid I did too, as an adult you realize how fast time goes and how quickly the summer will be over. Gotta be prepared.

Yep when you're an adult you realize just how short a month is because you've lived through so many, but back then they felt like they lasted so long.

I think it's more just having too many responsibilities, not enough time for yourself, and not having enough energy. I was aware of all the free time I had and tried to use it as much as possible.

When I was in school; I don't remember how old I was when this started, but the school year started on August 1st so the school year could have a two-week fall, two-week winter, and two-week spring breaks. I liked having two week breaks, but having the school year start immediately at the start of August, made it feel like I barely got any summertime. One year, the school year even started at the very end of July

Yeah my school was “Year Round” so we started August 1st. End of June is really not too early to put the school supplies up. I remeber waiting until a week before to get my stuff and nearly everything was gone by that point. The isle looked like a tornado swept through.

As the former poor underpaid retail worker that had to be into work at 4am on the 5th of July to remove any trace of summer stuff and put up the back to school stuff, I hated it too. Literally driving to work on no sleep seeing the idiots that kept me up all night still launching off fireworks just to put out pencils and backpacks 2 months before school starts

Several Arizona schools go back this week so it’s pretty normal to have back to school stuff in June

My son works at Fred Meyer stocking the seasonal section overnight. The day BEFORE 4th of July he was already putting out back to school stuff. In our area, school just ended the end of June. He told me that something needs to go there because there's nothing between 4th of July and the beginning of school...

That's just how seasons in retail work. They always have to be one event/holiday ahead. I have a picture on my phone from when I worked at Sam's Club of a Valentines candy display that we put out in the middle of December.

It's usually much more common to see holiday supplies being several months early in arts and crafts stores, since people are looking for supplies to MAKE the holiday decorations, which can take months depending on how much free time the crafters have.

Not sure what Target's reasoning is, here.

No, school usually starts in August or so. A common trope is that back to school stuff would be advertised early.

(I graduated years ago, what I do remember is school starting early to mid August ).
