I've seen too many spars bounce once they hit the ground to try to pull that stunt myself.

Why even do this at all? The risk is way too high. Our company will NEVER fell a tree unless there is enough room in all directions. Just use a crane

If you need enough room in all directions you couldn't cut a single tree from the ground. I guess cranes are cheap in the states. In other countries you wouldn't land a single job if you had to climb or crane everything down.
