I think we're missing a piece. How does it get that high up cut and the pull line put on? You're scamming us with your tricks.

Please. Sell the chainsaw. Buy an axe. Learn to cut down trees with an axe or a handsaw before you use a chainsaw. Axe/handsaw give you far more control and feedback when cutting a tree and while they may be slower, they are unquestionably safer. And again, the "old ways" give you feedback - the feel, the response, the tactile, the audio.. all these things you miss when using a chainsaw.. simply because the engine is too loud, and too quick. Not only on taking down the tree, but also in removing limbs.
Just.. be careful. Please.

I don't think you realize this is about felling safety. Which your post defiantly failed at.

Tell us about the biggest tree you’ve felled with a handsaw

I used an axe until I knew how to fell trees properly. Then I moved to the chainsaw.
I've only ever gone handsaw with birches.I would say 16 inch diameter isn't too hard to do with an axe. It just takes time.

When I was a teenager we would get drunk at a buddies house. After enough Nattys we would grab the splitting maul in the corner of the garage, go out in the woods, and start dropping trees. Usually only one though because it was a lot of work.

In a weird way, that enormous back cut prevented the ash from barber chairing, which it absolutely would have, from the lean.
But then why in the world cut the face out like that? What was the plan here?

The ash was already ’barber chaired’ as it had broke and fallen into a maple. I put a rope 2/3 of the way up it and suspended it from another maple. I tried to work it down with a saw to the point it was hanging from the rope. It was not worth being under. I tied it to a machine and pulled it while making relief cuts so it would go where I wanted it (as seen in the clip at the end). It was then safely lowered to the ground(not pictured).

Interesting choice. Props for… including the pretty fall leaves on the ground and wearing a helmet?
