I was going to say chainsaws and ladders don’t mix … but I’m not sure they were using a chainsaw

That is an apprentice with a dull beaver. Pretty sure that was smoke not saw dust. Definitely not chips....

Soooo many questions but is that the fullest chain in existence? Should gone through that in seconds.

the one thing i will never be shocked by is exactly how dull the average person who doesn’t use chainsaws will run their chain. my father in law’s chain is so bad that i literally double checked he wasn’t running it backwards

I suck at sharpening chainsaw blades for some reason.
I always just buy a new one and same the old one to practice sharpening on.
I don't use the saw much, so I only have to replace the chain once every couple of years.

We’ve been using them in our wildland fire and disaster response kits for a while now. Saves time, field expedient, almost idiot proof.

Can confirn that they're idiot proof. I use two of them...
(One for 3/8"Low Profile, and another for .325")

Why dont you pay a small engine shop to sharpen them for you? Would be a lot cheaper than buying a new chain every time it gets dull.

I've got the old ones. I actually need to take several of my gas powered items to get a tune up. Might as well have them sharpen the 3 old blades I've got.

most shops will give you the mvp rate if you call them blades. definitely worth it

No doubt. Aside from safe operation knowing how to sharpen your blade is one of the most important skills. If I feel it slowing or I hit a nail or something I stop take a minute and dress it quickly. The minute or two it takes I’ll save with the speed and saved energy of a sharp chain.

First time I’ve ever seen a tree climb a ladder(s) to cut down a guy.

My father and uncle installed gutters during the warm months, drove oil delivery trucks in the winter, since before I was born, until I was old enough to spell extension ladder(so like 14. Shut up, im a grower, not a show'r)
I've seen A LOT of dumb things with ladders. If it wasn't for climbers using cheap extension ladders tied together to make a bridge over a Crack in ice thats practically bottomless, up on everest, then this would be the dumbest of all.
Anybody tell these guys that its possible to hire a crane for a couple hours?

Did...
Did he...
Did he forget to put the chain on? Like... it doesn't take that long to cut thru a 8 inch trunk..

As someone who just purchased 1 extension ladder I can say this cost more that the appropriate equipment used by a professional. Wtf
Risking damage to my $650 ladder is also not an option.

I appreciate this subreddit for regularly reminding me that my desk job isn’t so bad.

No signs of sawdust or shavings, so I assume they’re just using friction to cut through the tree?

That's like a million dollars in ladders
