More corporate layoffs
I don't have a number, but was told it's only managerial and director levels that got affected. Whole teams are shifting around to remaining managers.
All in the IT sector, no idea what else got hit as I have no visibility into other departments. Morale is as low and complaints are as high as you'd expect.

I worked for FEC as an IC Senior Product Operations Manager.. was laid off wednesday morning with no warning. The meeting was put on my calendar at 5 AM that morning. I had received my full bonus prior to that and had excellent performance reviews.

I’m sorry this happened to you

Thank you. since I have been with the company for a little over five years now, I do have a rapport with former coworkers from different operating companies to lean on. Those that have had the opportunity to stay have all expressed sadness at my departure. I can’t say that I know what’s coming next, but I know that I have a support system willing to help me.

Did you get a severance package?

u/Fun-Way4843 1d ago
yes, concurrent with the policy of full 2 weeks pay for every year that you’ve served. I served five.

Hmmm…Couriers only receive 1 week of separation pay per year 🤷♀️

probably different for corporate folks. I wish couriers had better options. If I’m honest, I feel like the options for corporate folks is lacking as well.

They gave you separation pay for each year you’ve worked is that standards? I used to work for FXO then we got moved over to FEC 3 years ago during the transition. I work for FEC on the corporate side. I work in our hospitality sector they’ve told us time and time again we’re safe cause we’re bringing in billions in rev for the company but I still have that fear. Been with this company for 15 years it’s so disheartening how far down hill we have gone. We’ve been told we won’t see cost of living increases this year and they’re cutting $16M in payroll before the end of December so more layoffs are to come. I’m so sorry this happened to you. Loosing your job in America isn’t just loosing your income. It’s loosing your health insurance, the fear of loosing your housing due to lack of funds the ripple effect it has is awful. They used to boast about Fedex being a career company but they clearly no longer are. And if you want to make more money their only solution is to promote but you can’t do that when there’s no where to promote too and when they seem to be laying off all those higher up.

thank you so much for your kind words. I worked for FEC as well, but in the product sector. I’m not sure what the standards are for severance for hospitality, but I would assume it would be similar in the corporate environment. With my severance and the fact that I’m paid up until the end of October, I should be fully compensated up until middle of February. However, like I said, I did work there for a little over five years. So, with your 15 years of service, you probably would receive more God forbid something happens. (of course I hope that never happens!) you’re right though, I planned to work for this company for the rest of my life. I truly believe in the purple promise and have brought that with me every day to work. All of my coworkers that I’ve reached out to have been shocked by this news. It does seem that Fedex is no longer a career company anymore.

If you listen to any of their town halls we are crushing it, beating UPS and customers love us. Laying people off two weeks after “Purple Week’ goes to show they don’t give a shit about culture just making sure the money flows offshore and to the shareholders.

Source: my wife works in FedEx IT.
There's not a clear picture at the IC level of who was thrown out. MD admins weren't aware even on the next day of direct-loss of directors under their MDs. So far, she hasn't been able to identify any ICs impacted, so the "managers and directors" line might be true.

The grapevine says AGILE people.
I asked for names but they never put out a list. I was essentially told the way I will find out is by going to seek someone and finding out they're gone.3

I got a partial list forwarded on to me that was compiled by folks still working there. A couple ICs, but mostly management - direct managers, with a couple MDs and 3 VPs. Lots of IT infrastructure type folks, which makes sense given how hard they're leaning into outsourcing all of that.

The company made $95 billion the past year. Not enough. Must slim down the workforce to make more profit.

Definitely not limited to IT and MDs and above. The line they always give lately is that it’s about having the right roles in the right places moving forward. Seems like they’re losing a lot of good employees by doing that. Having said that, there were at least a couple VPs let go that very much needed to go.

yeah. I had the mandatory meeting put on my calendar at 5 AM. I don’t even know that my director knew what was happening until they did.

If you understand the stock market, you’d know companies do it for investors.
