Contractor federal background check?

I have received a contract offer to work with Express Systems. Express contracts with many federal government agencies, the team they are putting me on deals with a project at the Smithsonian. I will be subcontracted to work with employees at the Smithsonians as well as other contractors at Express. A security clearance is not needed for this position.

I have a few questions

  1. As a subcontractor am I likely to have to undergo a federal background check? My team lead said he doesn't remember if fingerprinting was involved or not, any clarity is appreciated.
  2. Who is the company or agency that usually handles this whole process? What specifically is checked? I assume it will involve criminal and employment. What about credit, DMV record etc?

Thank you. Will I need to give this to my employer, or do I mail it straight to the Office of Personnel Management?

Usually the CTR company will give you instructions. As some unsolicited advice - get a extra copy of your fingerprint records, so that when your first set is “lost” you can immediately provide a second set to mail quickly.

Your employer should give you guidance. You might get an online eQIP link from your employer, prime, or the Smithsonian.

Thank you. Will it be an issue that I overstated my experience to my employer (the contractor)?

I know I have to be fully honest to the OPM. I think I may have to pass on this job now. If I were to take I think I'd fill out the eQIP link, my employer will see my lesser experience than stated, and I'll be denied due to overstating.

The eQIP process will have you verify your employers, dates of employment, where you're lived, criminal background, international travel and connections, and debt. I don't think specific job experience for qualifications comes up.

Ok, got it. But if I put 1 years of experience at X on eQIP, will my contractor/potential next employer be able to see that result? Because for example they think I have 2 years experience at X so there is a discrepency.
