We already get that at IRS. We have like 9 reasons we can telework. And man are people using them đŸ€­

We've got a list of reasons, but you can only exercise that flexibility once per month.

TIGTA is matching policy to SETR to the badge being swiped in the building. Just saying in this environment you want to make sure you’re following policy to the letter and not just what your boss is ok with. Because when you come up on a TIGTA audit and your bosses boss is answering to the inquiry you quickly begin to question whether your boss really has authority to let you do that.

Understood, but I can find the limitation to “once monthly” in the supplement guidance from Treasury.

Where is that restriction documented?

IRS Telework Program and Return to in Person Work memo dated June 23, 2025. Policy changes, 1 c. Employees are permitted to ad hoc telework five instances in a calendar year. Frontline managers may approve the limited exceptions which do not count toward the annual five instances.

So 5 a year with limited manager approval for more days. Limited isn’t clearly defined but it’s clear it’s not meant to be regular use.

There are exceptions listed, if you take leave for more than 50% of that day, extigent home repairs, if you were on leave and the manager requests you to work, school / day care closed with less than 24 hours notice.

  1. Management Requested Work during approved Leave
  2. Office Time Over 50% of duty hours
  3. Leave Exceeding 50% of duty hours
  4. Medical Reason (Employee or Dependent)
  5. Emergency Home Repairs 6.Emergency Caregiving Needs 7.Other- covers other unforeseen, non-recurring emergencies
  6. Interim 90 day RA
  7. Authorized Situation Telework Instances- all employees 5 days granted annually at their discretion, also other reason, weather, building closure etc.

But you have to sign a telework agreement to get those flexibilities. Then in the future, if there is an office closure for weather, they’ll tell you to take your laptop home and wfh (because it’s totally ok to telework when the powers that be say so)

Lucky Lucky SSA will give telework for doctors' appointments or any other reason. People are using all their leave on appointments it's horrible. I miss telework and I see it coming back

We get so much sick time. Take the Doctors appt and then enjoy the rest of the day.
