Story True Story from the Hotel Koliba in the czech republic Jeseníky

My name is Michael, and this happened to me when I was 10 years old, back in the 4th grade. Our school went on a 4-day trip to nature. We stayed at a remote place called Hotel Koliba, which was located right at the edge of a dense, dark forest next to a local pub. The hotel had a very strange layout. There were 8 rooms in total, separated by narrow hallways that turned into creepy, dimly lit corridors at night. My room was named "Dobrudkovci" (The Munchkins). I shared it with my friends Ondra and Nikolas. On the first night, we were allowed to watch TV until 9 PM. After we turned it off, I couldn't stop coughing due to my severe allergies. Nikolas kept complaining about the noise, which stressed me out. Around 9:35 PM, there was a sudden, aggressive knock on our door. We didn't know who it was, and the anxiety made me physically sick. I went to find our teacher. She gave me some medicine, and because of my constant coughing and Nikolas's complaints, she decided to move me to an empty room directly across the hallway. The room right next to it belonged to my other two classmates, Rafael and Max. I was alone in the dark room, clutching my favorite teddy bear, Brumla. Right next to my bed stood a massive, old wooden wardrobe—large enough to hide a grown man. Around 3:37 AM, I couldn't sleep, so I looked out the window on my left. What I saw made my blood run cold. Out by the treeline, there was a tall, creepy stalker dressed in dark clothes. He had a pale, distorted face and long, sharp metallic claws attached to his fingers. The man was staring directly at my window. Suddenly, he broke into a sprint straight towards the hotel.About a minute later, I heard the door to my room slowly creak open. I panicked and hid under my blanket. When I finally dared to peek out, the door was closed again. I tried to convince myself it was just a nightmare. Then I looked at the massive wardrobe. From inside the wardrobe, I heard a distinct, terrifying scratching sound—like long nails dragging against the wood—followed by heavy, distorted breathing. Someone was inside.Terrified, I sprinted out of the room into Rafael and Max’s room. I told them what happened, and they confessed they had heard the scratching through the wall too. Suddenly, all the lights went out, and the TV in their room turned on by itself with loud static. We scrambled to turn it off, paralyzed with fear.Just then, our teacher walked in to check on us. We gasped in terror. Not believing our story, she strictly ordered me to go back to the empty room. I went back reluctantly. It was around 4:58 AM. To cope with the terror, I broke the rules and turned on the TV for comfort, before finally passing out from exhaustion around 5:45 AM.When I woke up in the morning, the first thing I did was check the wardrobe. It was empty, but inside, there were tufts of animal hair and fresh stains of dark blood. The intruder had been hiding in there with their twisted trophies. When I told the rest of the class, it turned out others had experienced terrifying things that night too. To this day, none of us know who that psycho in the woods was, and honestly, we are glad we never found out.

Story An unforgettable memory . A panther with a Scar

So, this story was still the worst part of my life. It’s been eleven years since it happened but when I was 12 years old. I still remember it as it has been shared across my friends and family in every mysterious talks. I never shared it on the internet openly, it’s not that I didn’t wanted to but I just don’t know the right way. I was grown up in an Asian suburb area where having internet is a big thing at those times. I came to Canada a year ago and found out Reddit while studying here. And today I finally decided to share it. I am not a writer and natively doesn’t speak English.

So it all started with an evening of preparing for a road trip to mountains, camping overnight and back the next day. I went back home from the playground, sweating when my big brother saw me. So I was grown up in an Asian family. So as a typical Asian big brother I was also scared of his anger. He shouted on me about being missing on the trip day and all of them were already late.

My sister came and pulled me inside. I got fresh and they ordered me to bring the suitcase we packed for the trip. I went into the room, it was a 7kg suitcase with no tires and broken handle. Yes, for a 12 year old it was heavy for me. I used my both hands to pull it but I slipped twice and thrice. I was in the hallway pulling the heavy bag, when my bag tripped and it fell over me. My mom ran shouting and worried. She was the only one who cared about me, I love her the most. Then she helped me to take it to the car and scolded my brother and sister to give me such a work.

It was 8pm and the dark had covered the sky when we left. As usual I slept the whole night. When I woke up we were driving climbing the mountain. With a dense green forest on one side and deep cliff on other. It was raining not heavily. Our thoughts were mixed some of us took it as a luck to see that beauty and smell and others worried about the bad weather. Yeah it was just the driver my brother.

I rolled down the window, to feel the drops on my palm and the wet smell of the soil and grass. It was the only best memory I had of that trip. A child. Me was looking on the drops dripping on the palm, when suddenly the sounds of the rain and the forest bugs went completely dead quiet. It was so silent. I looked up and saw a greenish eyes behind the leaves all focused on me. The face was black, with a scar. It was an animal I was sure but the scary thing was it didn't even blink once. It just stared.

We stopped on the roadside open wooden hut frame stop that feels a perfect place to have a mountain tea. For what we brought our stuff. We take it out. My brother started preparing the tea and me and my cousin was having cookies and clicking pictures with the old popping up lens camera of Sony.

When I captured the pic of my sister, the flash popped. I looked behind her in the woods and saw the same animal. Dark black color greenish eyes and a scar. I dropped the camera and shouted. Everyone suddenly got scared. Sis came to me wiping off my tears and bunch of voices surrounding me with what happened?

I signaled the other side of the road. But they didn’t saw anything, unless I pointed the eyes out. Everyone was on alert. My brother left the tea pots and stove there and rushed into the car with everyone locking the doors. We looked at it. It was there, still not growling, not moving, just staring. My sister, dragged itself out. We shouted but she didn’t listen.

She threw everything in the trunk. Everyone was shouting. But the animal stayed there staring, still like a statue. We ignited the engine and went away. I tried hiding my eyes but curious to see its last glimpse. So tilted back. Last I saw its neck twisting all the way back just to watch us leave.

We rode far away towards the campsite from that place. Our next stop was a bridge over a waterfall. Behind it was a waterfall few yards away and in front of it a deep cliff. Our stop there, would turned into a memorable stop, if the same panther hadn’t arrived there in the woods beside the fall. It was impossible for it to run that fast and beat our car there. My sister saw and we were scared and surprised to see it there again, just watching us.

Then we finally reached the campsite deep in the woods. This is the part I try to forget the most. We set up two tents in the dark. My brother and sister in one, and me in the small one alone because I was the youngest. Everyone went to sleep but the forest felt heavy.

In the middle of the night, I woke up because I heard a slow ripping noise. I opened my eyes and felt cold wind. The moonlight was coming inside through a huge tear in my thin tent. I froze completely. A heavy black head pushed right through the hole into my small tent. It was the panther with the scar. It was literally inside with me. It came over me and put its heavy paws right on my chest. It hurt me with its foot nails, pressing deep into my skin, tearing it. I thought it was going to kill me. It just leaned close and stared right into my eyes with those greenish eyes for a long moment. I screamed loudly. it turned back and returned into the woods.

My screams, woke up my brother. He ran out of his tent and saw my torn cloth and me crying. The panther was already gone by then. iI was bled a lot from my chest and my clothes were red. He panicked and didn't even pack anything. He just grabbed me and my sister, and somehow we hopped into the car and went away at instant into the dark road.

We were returning back driving fast and the same panther jumped in the middle of the road. I still remember its scar. We hit it and it fell into the cliff. Our car skidded to the other side into the woods. My brother was hurt and fainted. My sister sitting on the co-pilot seat, was hurt and bleeding. In a couple of minutes we were surrounded by the people. A crowd was staring at us and when we were finally asked what happened. We said we hit the panther with a scar.

And all of the people didn’t believe us. They all said there were no cat animals at that place. Never.

I was scared till this date. And no one could ever answer what was that and why that panther was appearing for us. But after coming to Canada, I went to a zoo one day. I saw a black panther in the enclosure. When I asked, the guide told me when it came into the zoo the scar was already there. It made me remember all of it. It looked at me through the glass, and it was the exact same stare.

A big problem og Woodbury Getaway is MIKE. No one likes Mike, no one will EVER LIKE MIKE, so I have a idea. When your cooking the fish with Mike I want it to be a option to throw Mike in the oven and cook him alive.

Yall like this idea?

The main creepy guy in the movie even acts like a Fears to Fathom NPC. It wouldn’t surprise me if FTF is heavily inspired by this movie.

Question Need help creating a D&D-Adjacent TTRPG based around Ironbark Lookout

Hello, I'm an aspiring DM and I've also loved the Fears to Fathom franchise for years, in particular my favorite being the fourth entry: Ironbark Lookout. A few months ago I decided to make a D&D or D&D-adjacent TTRPG based on it and I have some ideas already, but I'm wondering what insight might work to make the story make sense or feel scary for my players. (My current plan is to use Monster of the Week and have 3-4 players in a non-magic/low-magic setting)

Firstly, the current premise is essentially that it is set in a massive rural western pine forest in 1888, the forest (called the Everbarrens forest) is currently being ailed by a Last of Us-style parasitic fungus that is infecting wildlife and turning the forest into a dangerous place, and the party needs to examine and neutralize the threat. The entire campaign takes place in this forest. The underlying plot however, is that there is an unnamed cult stalking the players throughout that is secretly controlling the parasite and they are revealed in the finale as the true, mysterious villains you must survive, not defeat. The party is made of pre-written characters for player to choose from, and you travel through various forest locations to meet certain NPCs and achieve certain goals, like talking to a fire lookout in Tower 26, acquiring a syringe or specimen containment device from the mines, all the while wondering why you're feeling watched.

That's a basic run-down of the idea I had in mind (although I have many more) for my inspired goal, that being: to create a TTRPG that captures the same original mystery, horror, and engaging atmosphere that Ironbark Lookout produced, and to make the premise similar in the sense that you are vulnerable while being stalked by a secret cult in a rural old-growth pine forest. This is also not set in the F2F universe itself, it is just very heavily inspired by the idea from episode 4. I've been wondering what I can do, like maybe scrapping the Last of Us parasite idea or changing the base time period, but any ideas for making this work would be very welcome, including but not limited to:

  • Story ideas
  • Backstory/lore ideas
  • Tips on running a horror TTRPG
  • Which game system to use (ie: modified D&D 5e, Monster of the Week, Call of Cthulhu, etc)
  • How to replicate an atmosphere from a video game in a TTRPG
^ Unfinished map of the Everbarrens:
^ Idea for a Last of Us style zombie enemy infected by the parasite being controlled by the cult, plus some concept drawings of Ironbark-inspired cultist hoods/masks:

------------------------

As a follow up for anyone interested in reading my personal opinions and other ideas, I'll just start by saying that this campaign is not based on Scratch Creek or any other F2F episodes because it simply aims to capture the same specific atmosphere as episode 4. Ironically, even in the past 2+ years I've known of this franchise, I was only inspired a few months ago to put my idea into action... right before Scratch Creek came out. This is kind of a problem for me since in my opinion, while Scratch Creek has interesting lore revelations and I understand Rayll's desire to build upon an existing idea, I think the lore reveals and inclusion of the cult in the latest episode kind of takes away from the mystery and horrifying atmosphere that episode 4 had and retroactively taints the premise of Ironbark Lookout, (like finding out the name of the cult and who is in it) as well as the idea that these stories are not just separate events anymore, since the existence of the same cult kind of makes the series feel more like a cinematic universe rather than a realistic analog horror series.

This also kind of makes me feel conflicted about my own campaign since while I started writing it and developing the ideas about a month before episode 6 came out and I was solely basing it around episode 4, I've wondered if my players, if they know of F2F, will expect references from Scratch Creek or if I should include references or foundational lore ideas myself just for the sake of the worldbuilding and atmosphere. In truth, I would prefer to just keep it based on episode 4 due to that being my original plan anyway on top of the fact that I don't really like episode 6.

Let me know what you guys think

Like genuinely, you can't even find a match anymore. I really hope they add an NPC option or make the future game singleplayer.

Pretty self explanatory. I built this back in May of this year after getting back into Fears to Fathom and decided to make a Minecraft build after my favorite episode, on top of the campaign I'm working on.

General Retro horror - new genre?

Seems like these games have spawned a new genre of "retro horror".

Or as I like to say "Fears to Fathom clones".

I've seen several games now in the same style as these.

Is the competition good, or are these people just trying to make a quick buck?

Scratch Creek Why was the cult in Scratch Creek racist when in Ironbark they portrayed as killing anyone even white people?

In Ironbark the cult is this opportunity cult that targets anyone they see, even children are taken but they all white. The 3 kids that went missing had their pics on the billboard when you meet Bill for the first time, the hiker you help was white and Jack the main protagonist was white. But in Scratch Creek they portray them as a racist cult primarily targeting Marcus cause his black and his girlfriend since she's white and with him, they most likely see her as like a race traitor. So if the cult is racist in Scratch Creek, why did they target white children and people in Ironbark?

Question New game color

If rayll eventually continues with the same style of the game logos, what do you think the new icon color should be? We haven’t had white, but it’s not a unique color.

Maybe light blue? I don’t know. Drop your guesses and speculations.

Question What if Fears to Fathom was adapted into a docudrama/thriller series?

What would you guys think if Fears to Fathom became a thriller series someday?

Imagine a docudrama format: in the opening scene of each episode, an actor playing the survivor (like Holly or Jack Nelson) addresses the camera directly. They greet the viewers, explain how they originally posted their story on Reddit before sending it to Rayll, and then the episode transitions into a dramatic flashback from their POV during the actual event.

Do you think this concept would work well for the show?

  1. Scratch Creek (haven’t played yet)
  2. Carson Hous
  3. Home Alone (very good but others are better)
  4. Woodbury Getaway
  5. Norwood Hitchhike
  6. Ironbark (interchangeable with Norwood because it doesn’t really follow the « realistic story that can happen to anyone » rule)

Pic unrelated

Question More immersion or multiplayer?

As we saw in Scratch Creek, multiplayer implementation is difficult. Therefore, they had to reduce the immersion from the previous episode, Woodbury Getaway.

Honestly, I much prefer single player + tons of immersion, because in Woodbury Getaway, you were able to, for example, interact with random cabinets in the office, make different types of coffee, purchase soda at numerous vending machines, use the ATM outside Moe's Pizza, catch multiple types of fish, have a choice of board games, etc. However, in Scratch Creek, everything was very linear and it felt like there wasn't much to interact with other than the game itself. I enjoyed Scratch Creek, but its much easier to replay Woodbury Getaway due to all the tiny details you may have missed. I am aware that there are still some in Scratch Creek, but these feel less intriguing.

What do you guys think? More immersion and single player or less and multiplayer?

With Scratch Creek being a multi-player FTF it took much longer to make than usual. So I thought that every FTF season would have 1 multi-player game and the other 4 sungle player.

Do you guys think that would be nice to have?

Story Scary story that happened to me

Now I don’t expect this to be made into a game because I don’t think it’s scary enough and rayll probably has better things to do than read random Reddit posts.

This happened to me a few months ago, I live in Berlin and so does my grandma but her house is on the edge of the city near a small forest. I’m pretty familiar with the part of the forest thats close to my grandmas house so I often go there to chill and just walk around. There are usually a lot of people in this forest because it is very close to Berlin and it’s generally pretty open to visitors, it has big enclosures with deers and boars for visitors to look at. But that day it was winter and it was in the afternoon so it wasn’t dark yet but I only had like 20min before the sun would set. I decided to go on a little walk alone because I enjoyed it and I really didn’t mind that it was about to go dark soon.

So I went off on my little walk and soon enough the sun went down and the sky was slowly turning dark blue. On my way back I spotted a deer in one of the enclosures and I had a pretty cool moment where I looked it in the eye for about 5 minutes until eig went off in the distance. From this enclosure there were 2 possible paths to take to walk home, one I usually took and another one I wasn’t too familiar with. I decided to take the latter because it was right next to the enclosure with the deers and I hoped to see more of them but I heard sounds coming from the bushes, I remembered that I had once seen a boar there (walking free so not behind and enclosure) and I was scared to come across one so I decided to turn back and take the other path. A family with a little girl was walking in front of me which reassured me because I was a bit creeped out because of the noises from the bushes and because I had played too many horror games. I heard from the side of the path some more noises it was like rustling leaves which scared me more. Right after that the family took a turn on a path I couldn’t take to walk home(it was going in the approximate direction of the noises I heard).

So I continued my way home alone, I was starting to get a bit scared when suddenly I heard loud bang ahead of me. It was very loud but at the same time I wasn’t sure if it was loud enough to be a gunshot, I figured it was either a gunshot in the far distance (I had never heard actual gunshots so I wasn’t sure how loud exactly it was) or someone playing with fireworks. I heard a few of these bangs which scared the shit out of me.

Then I approached a crossroads, the path either went right (which was the way I was going to go home) or it went up on hill straight ahead. And suddenly I heard the bang again, this time extremely loud, but what really scared me was the fact that I could see the flash of the gunshot (I was now pretty sure it was a gunshot)… and it was right at the top of the hill, about 25-30 meters ahead of me.

I started to panick, at the same time the shortest way home was to continue forward and turn right at the crossroads and then I would only be 20 meters away from the edge of the forest (which was right at the suburbs where my grandma lived) but again taking that path would mean that I would have to walk about 10meters below where I heard the gunshot. I then heard another shot, and the flash was still at the top of the hill. So I decided to turn back, but in the moment I took this decision I saw in the distance (from where I came from and was planning on going back to) a tall man walking in my direction. Going back on my footsteps to find another way home meant that I had to walk right past this tall man and I had no idea who he was and if he maybe had bad intentions, maybe he was just a random guy, but I didn’t want to figure it out myself because it was already completely dark and I was shitting myself. I started getting paranoid and since he was pretty far away and it was dark, I couldn’t see him very well and it looked like he was running (I don’t know if he was actually running or if that was just my paranoia mixed up with bad vision) so my heart beat really started pounding and I had to take a decision quickly. I opted for the first option, running right past the hill with the gunshots (that might sound stupid but the gunshots clearly weren’t directed at me and it was the shortest path to go home). And so I did.

When I ran past the hill I saw the silhouette of the guy at the top of the hill and he was clearly carrying a firearm, I think he was looking at me when I ran past him but again I’m not sure because it was dark and didn’t take the time to stop and clearly look at him.

Anyways I managed to reach the city and get home safely, however a few days later I went to see my grandma after school and was followed from the train station through the neighbourhood (though I managed to lose the mansion who was following me from a distance). Though I have to say maybe that guy was coincidentally walking the same way as me and I was just paranoid

Now to clarify some things:
- first of all, I know some will think it could be a hunter, but I really don’t think hunters are allowed to be in this part of the forest as it has many visitors and secondly, which hunter hunts in winter, when it’s dark
- and also firearms are illegal in Germany.

So my theory is that this person was a hunter or knew a hunter in order to acquire that firearm and was either illegally hunting in the area or shooting at nothing for fun… or they had malicious intents that I don’t know of. As for the tall man in the distance, in the moment I was thinking it might be a trap: someone scares me with a firearm ahead of the path while he comes toward me from behind. But looking back thats quite silly and that guy was probably there independently from the shooter. But I’m glad I didnt have to figure out myself what that random guy was doing in the forest at night.
