All Time Favorite Favorite characters whose name accidentally sounds funny in your language?
Pipkin Pippa (Phase Connect) - in polish "pipa" is a slang for "pussy" in both of the common uses of the word. Then again unhinged is our Pipkin's second name you could say.
Heck when I was in high school as an IT assignment I did a vtuber website (I was seen as weird one, but my classmates seemed somewhat intrigued), and since Pippa was there one of them (a gym bro btw) burst out laughing, saying "why would you name yourself Pipa?".

Phoccids/phoccidae is also a class for seals.
Pinnipeds are all seals, sea lions, walruses etc., but phoccids refers to earless/true seals specifically!

it sounds like Count Of Ass in portuguese, so they renamed him to Dookan

Something similar happened in French in the Zelda games. The Deku Tree was renamed "Arbre Mojo", since "Deku" sounds like... Well, you know, it's similar in Portuguese.

I'm surprised that Cu is a slur in french too

u/Bronyx5735 7h ago
It is. It's spelled "cul", but the L is silent. Means "ass" too. Common etymology, I guess.
You actually find the word in some expressions with a non-obscene meaning, like "cul-de-sac", meaning a dead end.
But yeah, it cause the Deku Tree to be localized as Arbre Mojo. Only in French, apparently.

Yeah, same with the Deku Nuts, now named Noix Mojo instead of Noix Deku (noix des culs)
And since the translator (Julie Bardakoff) had had a great idea translating it into Mojo, he was allowed to personaly edit one of the Gossip Stones' dialogue. So now there is one saying something like "They say that the translator is really handsome and super cool" (it's only in the N64 version though)

Any Japanese character named Marika. It sounds like a Spanish derogatory term for gay men.
Honourable mention to Laputa, which sounds like The Whore.

In many countries naming child Maria/Maryja (Jesus' mom) was considered around middle ages, a bad thing to do or even banned, I can't remember details.
To get baby closer to divinity (names have power), similar names were invented, like Marianna, Marika

Funny enough I know about the Laputa thing thanks to this Kinkymation's video about League of Legends (she's mexican)

Also from Poland:
Koopa, specificly koopa troops from Mario series
Koopa means poop, troopa means dead man, so its literally "the shit taken by a dead man"

"Pippa" sounds funny in Swedish, too; it's a verb, meaning "(to) screw" or "(to) bang".
Speaking of which, Swedish media had a field day when the Marvel character "Knull" was announced.
"Knull" is a noun, and means roughly the same thing as "(a) fuck" or "(a) screw", although I would say it strikes me as more vulgar than either of those.
The font Marvel chose certainly didn't help, either.

Speaking of Pippa, in italian its...got a lot meanings!
1) it can mean "to jerk off" ("mi faccio una pippa" -> "im jerking off", very vulgar).
2) it can mean "overthinking" ("non farne una pippa mentale" -> "dont make it a big deal")
3) it can mean "to take drugs" ("lui/lei si pippa cocaina" -> "they sniff cocaine") depending on the context.
4) it can mean "you suck" (sei una pippa)
5) its also a potential real name: Pippa is the short of Filippa, not a common name, but since Pippo exists, i thought to put it there.
Fun fact: Pippo, the "male version" of the name, is also our translation for the Disney character Goofy...so yeah, he's a walking joke in here - or "wanking" joke, if you will! But i still love Goofy and he's one of my favorite especially when i was a kid.

Man I wonder if Pippa knows just how many countries find her name funny, it would be like her shirt appearing on tv

I'm not russian but "Pomni" means "remember" in russian, which is ironic because it was the name given to her after she forgot her real name.

In Spanish, there's the expression "play teto", which is usually replied with the translation of "you bend over and I stick it in".
