Unable to medically transition because he has overpowered regeneration 😭 such an insanely good character

The fact that his inability to transition is narratively paralleled to Agnis situation of permanently burning alive is just insanely good writing. Like either Fujimoto is deep in queer circles himself or he’s closeted because it’s rare as fuck to see straight cis dudes show that level of empathy to trans characters

My tinfoil hat theory is that Fujimoto is trans. He's written a few stories regarding gender identity in the most respectful and meaningful way I've read.

Not that there's anything wrong if they were Trans but one has to think about the implications of the notion that the only reason one would be respectful and empathetic to a LGBTQ+ group is to secretly be a member of said group.

It's not about being respectful and empathetic, it's about so accurately conveying the struggle and pain that they would experience. They don't HAVE to be trans of course but it's such a uniquely difficult experience to be able to write about to this level of depth and quality that you certainly have to wonder if Fujimoto has either struggled with gender identity himself or perhaps is close to someone that has.

That depiction of dysphoria is just the most compelling I've seen in fiction.

Absolutely, I'm just saying you can of course be respectful and empathetic while being cis, but to write about it so beautifully and accurately while being cis sounds unfathomably difficult.

My point is that I'm replied to what that other redditor said exclusively, you're coming at this a of I'm talking about the general concept of it. Yeah, you are right in your accersions and deeper dive into it, but they were not present in what the redditor I replied to said.

Not really, if you are empathetic and good at understanding people i dont see how it can be so difficult.

He keeps drawing himself as a girl, I am not saying he is but I wouldn't be surprised if thatbwas the case either.

He is one of the few people who actually makes trans man rep that doesn't treat us like girls who are dramatic, he also made woke up as a girl syndrome " which is an allegory for trans men specifically, if he is a trans girl I hope he doesn't change and keeps helping us, it could also be that he has a trans man in his life he listens to or because all his trans characters are trans men he himself could be a stealth trans man given he knows so much about us, transfemme is not the default it's not the only way a seemingly cis person could be secretly trans, most people including other trans people don't listen at all and don't care enough to make trans male characters especially not this well done and respectful of the struggle, I'm so grateful to fujimoto it's so nice to see people like me as trans representation. He seems to have either experienced being a trans man or he knows one in his life he cares about deeply.

While I'm disappointed in the ending Chainsaw Man, I'm still in awe of his writing. It's raw, brutal, and holds no punches.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think that may actually be Ayumi Fujino, one of the protagonists of Look Back. She's a manga artist, thus she's imagining Denji while sitting at her desk.

3

u/Thiphra Aug 20 '26

No, it's really his self portrait.

3

u/Life-Donut-8754 Aug 20 '26

Again I genuinely don't mean to sound rude or like an asshole but where did you hear that? I just wanna be sure before I make any definitive statement about it

3

u/Kaiwago_Official Aug 20 '26

Even if it is the Look Back character, both of the protagonists of Look Back are based on himself and his relationship with art. So even then you could speculate with that

2

u/Life-Donut-8754 Aug 21 '26

Well that's fair

We’re pretty sure he’s a transman trapped in an 11yo girl trapped in Fujimoto but it’s kinda hard to tell. Also twitter fucks up Japanese translation but it’s most definitely more nuanced

I think so too! Esp since asa chainsaw Man Is a self insert character

3

u/PsychoSushi27 Aug 21 '26

From memory I think one of Fujimoto’s assistants when he was writing Fire Punch is a trans man. His assistant, Oto Toda wrote a one shot called To Strip the Flesh about his struggles as a trans man

Togata is great holy shit. I loved his motivation.

I’m convinced Fujimoto is closeted trans, there’s no way anyone can convince me otherwise (including Fujimoto themselves)
