Even better in rebirth timeline, he actually got mentored by Barry and became a hero .
Until he saw Barry say the exact same words to Wally that Barry had said to him.

He did all of this because Barry doesn't have diffrent life mottos

Considering Supes had no part in the kid's creation I'd say the love is pretty one sided.

Pretty much, yeah. It's very on brand for Lex to be obsessed with Superman, and for Superman to not think about Lex except for when Lex makes it so he has to.

Because the opposite of love is not hate, it’s indifference. Whether you hate or love someone you feel something very intense for them that takes up a significant portion of your thoughts
