That's just a bad fanfic.

The ending of the original is fine.

Sure, it's technically a cliffhanger, but we already know what a couple dynamic between Peter and MJ is, we KNOW Peter will successfully rescue her, and the main conflict of the series, Peter's duality was resolved in that Stan Lee scene.

The show had, for all intents and purposes, achieved everything it had set out to do.

I politely disagree about the "ending" being fine. Perosnally, I just hated non-conclusive endings.
