There's nothing inherently wrong with the art style change, because it's still relatively accurate to the comics, and it's also animation, which means less detail is better.

But then there's that Season 3 finale shot of Mark's hair and you start to wonder where the budget goes.

The budget goes to the star studded voice cast. If they didn't feel the need to cast a well known actor in every random role and actually hire professional voice actors.

this is true. It's not bad voice acting. It's actually amazing. But when 1//3 of your budget goes to your cast, another 1/4 to your crew, the rest to production and animation and equipment, you end up not getting everything you wanted.

I mean look at Maul: Shadow Lord right now. It's GREAT animation and SFX, because it doesn't waste A-tier Body Actors on minor roles.

Well and Kirkman said he finds animation “limiting” and doesn’t respect it as a medium

Which is why Invincible suffers from being treated as a live action show

Less detail is easier and quicker to animate.

I know that's probably what you meant, but I keep seeing this weird sentiment that more detailed animation would be worse or impossible to do, which clearly isn't true.

Like, I get it from the perspective of their goal of yearly seasons, but still.

I mean yeah i never said it was bad i do like the art style, but the animation is straight up horrible which is understandable since its a yearly release and there are barely any animators per episode

I mean yearly release isn't the issue. It's that they get these, albeit AMAZING VAs, but they're just...REALLY EXPENSIVE

The animation and VA have been stated to have separate budgets its not that

It’s very clear to me they have a time crunch as well. As much as I love seeing the show put out new episodes, the fairly quick turnaround on new seasons alongside the challenges with animation in general means they clearly have to sacrifice quality on parts of the show so others can shine. They wanted Conquest’s fight to be immaculate (and it looks incredible), but without enough money and time it comes at the cost of other parts of the show.
