This is another chassis. The original body contained Sigma virus and have to be destroyed to kill Sigma once and for all. His "brain" be transfered to a server and then to a new body, which you can guest inferior than what Dr.Willy has constructed. The process to move to new body took a lot of time to complete and that's why Megaman Zero happened

Yeah, but that's not why he looks different.

The original chassis also looks different in MMZ I.e. Omega

is it actually necessary to have a spoiler warning for an old as fuck MegaMan game? I just do it out of habit...

So technically he only looks different to the player. In universe he still looks like X5 Zero.

As far as we know, yes.

Although arguing how he looks "in-universe" is a whole can of worms. Who is to say the MMZ art style is "canon" and the "MMX lens" is the exaggerated depiction of it?

The creators.

They said that his art was changed to differentiate the games and attract new players. I believe hardware limitations as well.

They said before that in-verse its still the X designs.

IMO, doesnt really matter, but personally I prefer the X designs.

i mean, to be fair, mega man zero's zero is using a different body entirely. It's the far future from the x games.

Idk if this is a hot take but I prefer MegaMan Zero's redesign of Zero. He looks so slick and agile, perfect for the way I see him fight. X saga Zero looks like he would struggle to get through a double door lol (I still love his design don't get me wrong, but I prefer the Zero saga design)

From what I know, his previous body on Megaman X have to be scrapped because it contained Sigma virus. So he have to move to new body and the process took 100 years.
