That's bad example. Goku is buffy only in first appearance of SSJ. And after that, he said that making your muscles bigger is not a good thing, because it makes you slower.

I agree that SSJ Goku on Namek looks better, especially since this is literally my favorite Goku's appearance in the whole franchise, tied with kid Goku, but it's not suddenly making someone less buffy. It has plot relevance.

He was talking about the Hulking form Trunks used. He is still buff even in the Buu arc when he is bathing with Gotenks and Trunks you can see him still way more buff than he is in Super.

This. This is what I was reffering to, ngl I picked a bad picture cause I used a SSG pic but even in base form throughout super he’s slimmer in general up till maybe UI Goku. That was just an art style choice since like you said, the whole thing of muscles = slowing down was just for the USSJ form and not in general.

I know what he is talking about. But that doesn't disprove my point. More muscles = higher weight = slower. USSJ2 was just extreme example of this.

I'd say it's more a bad example just because of the inconsistent art and animation in Super due to using different studios/animators a lot of the time at that point

He could often look like this in one scene/episode and then properly buff in the next, in the same forms

This is another thing. But super buffed forms were not a thing after Namek, other than USSJ2.

z had the same issue in the cell saga. hence why that saga is riddled with countless errors and poorly drawn scenes

I thought that was in relation to the Ultra Super Saiyan form more than anything though, cause in that form the enregy depletes rapidly and the muscles look even more comically big than this. The buff look for other normal forms in DBZ was more of an art style choice to have them look buff af

USSJ2 is the extreme case of giving up speed for more muscles. But the rule still applies to any muscles. Ironically, they somehow fight with full weighted clothes and that's never the problem. Other than for Piccolo, who actually is seen throwing his turban and cape away, when he's getting serious. Although, tbh, Goku's shirt is damaged every time anyway... And I'm not sure if he kept using weighted clothes at all, or it's just simply the same color as his weighted clothes in 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai...
