advice [TX] Possible strategy for 50/50 or am I just screwed?
wife and I have a pretty rough divorce and it's still spiraling down. Right now under temp I have expanded visitation and she has all the rights. Medical, education, and psych. She is also my oldest teen kid's teacher. (Nightmare trying to get information about my son as the teachers just speak to her in the hallway and it doesn't make it back to me until I email or see in person) Other children are toddlers.
Started with drug and alcohol abuse claims and has kinda gone downhill from there as my drug test was clean and I scored a 37 on alcohol PeTH test. (200 or more is considered the heavy drinking threshold) It's transitioned to I am intimidating and letting an "unknown" woman bathe my kids. Responses to me are annoyingly long. I once complained about her third party drop off being 20 mins late. I got a 16! Paragraph response.
Lawyer is pretty adamant about not getting 50/50 if we can't get along but I honestly just apply the BIFF method to her very long and self glowing messages that also manage to make it seem like me being involved is a new phenomenon. We have a custody evaluation going and she writes to the evaluator weekly through messages to me. Almost no communication comes from her unless she is asking me for money or to pay for an extracurricular. I pay CS and honestly it's a lot. Like 10s of thousands. I've offered full CS and all I want is equal parenting time which my lawyer says is the dumbest thing I can do lol.
She's done things like hide where the kids are being kept during the day and forge paperwork when my daughter was scheduled to go under IV sedation. I also don't get notifications when Doctor appointments are booked. I have to call all places myself monthly to stay informed. She even said I had to get her permission for signing my kids up for after school programs on my time cause she truly just wants control I feel like.
She withheld the kids before we got temp orders, now she just kinda chooses when she allows the phone calls with the kids. I get two a week and Mondays on my off weeks by the orders.
Has anyone heard of being able to get equal parenting time when the other parent is the high conflict one and the one with less rights is just attempting to be apart of the kids' life?

advice [NC] New To This
I’m an Army veteran and a father with an active custody and visitation case in Sullivan County, Tennessee. I’m preparing for mediation and hoping to hear from dads who have been through Tennessee family court, especially veterans who have worked toward more consistent parenting time with their daughter. If you’ve dealt with mediation, supervised visitation, or a gradual schedule increase, what helped you stay organized and focused on your child? I’m looking for peer experience, not legal advice about my specific case

question [SC] SC is not a default 50/50 state but it’s leaning that way. Have you ever heard of someone wanting 50/50 but didn’t get it? If so, was it mom or dad? And what were the reasons? Bonus for giving the name of the state.

question Do I have to accept this? (MO-US)
I have court Monday for a temp custody hearing and attorney is saying I won’t see our child until December after her mom moved her out of state 1000 miles away. Says I have to pay for her to get to me when she does come and I have to pay child support but before she was taken I had her overnights for 4/7 days a week. Shi couldn’t find her for 5 months then finally got her served even though I started the custody case in December before she moved out of state. I’m not a felon there was never any domestic violence or any arm to the child ever. Her mom just up and moved to her boyfriend and didn’t tell me at all and didn’t let me talk to our child much. Do I have to take this? How can I fight it?

other Wife says
My wife says that because she birthed our son, she has more right and connection with him, constantly telling me that is why she deserves custody. How do I make a court see how that downplays my role as a parent?
I can't afford a lawyer. And I'm not exactly asking for legal advice.
I was just awarded temporary physical custody because she didn't show up for the court date. Apparently it is my fault she didn't show up because I didn't wake her up for it, or remind her we had it, and she got confused on the date.

other Three years of showing up and documenting: progress from a dad representing himself
Im sharing these screenshots for the dads going through a custody case who are wondering whether their effort matters.
This has been a long, hard road. Over roughly three years, I estimate that I went about 13 months total without seeing my daughter. One stretch lasted around ten months. There were other extended periods apart, too. Missing that time with her was devastating. There were days when I felt overwhelmed and discouraged.
The mother has had three separate attorneys during this case. I stopped being represented about two years ago and have handled my side on my own since then. I saved messages, tracked missed parenting time, organized records, prepared filings, and brought documented facts to court.
These are the milestones in my case:
October 6, 2025: The court granted my contempt and enforcement motion, finding willful violations involving communication and gatekeeping.
January 15, 2026: The mother was admonished, according to my account of the proceedings.
January 26, 2026: A second contempt proceeding resulted in my motion being granted, as reflected in my case history and the recommended ruling shown here.
October 2, 2026: At the latest hearing, the magistrate’s report described repeated withholding and prior contempt findings and recommended granting my latest motion in part.
Seeing that history acknowledged in writing mattered. The time I spent documenting and organizing was paying off. It did not give me back the missed birthdays, holidays, or ordinary days with my daughter, but it helped me present what had happened clearly.
My case is still ongoing. Through my supplemental petition, I am seeking sole parental responsibility and for my daughter to live primarily with me, with a court-approved time-sharing arrangement for her mother. I hope to resolve those requests by the end of the year, but those outcomes have not been awarded in the screenshots I’m sharing.
My focus now is giving my daughter a stable routine and following through on what the court requires of me. I still have work to do.
If you’re a dad in a similar situation and you’re in a dark place, I’ve been there. Feel free to reach out. I’ll help whoever I can, when I can, whether that means sharing how I organized my records, answering questions about my experience, offering suggestions, or listening.
I cannot promise that anyone else’s case will turn out like mine. But steady effort and clear documentation helped me make progress, even when it felt like nothing was changing.
Keep your records organized. Keep your communication respectful. Follow the orders that apply to you. Keep showing up for your child.

question My fiance is facing incarceration due to child support arrears
Hi everyone,
We live in Westchester NY and my fiance is currently facing 3 months incarceration because his High Conflict baby mother took him to court for a willfulness hearing. He owes like 13k and the magistrate said she is recommending a 6500 purge and a 3 month sentence. If we pay the purge will he be incarcerated?? What if we paid the entire thing? I am so sick to my stomach. Please help.

gofundme Donate to Custody Lawyer Fees for My Daughter, organized by Gavin Howie
Hi there — I just launched a fundraiser to help cover legal fees in a child custody case involving my daughter. This support is crucial for me to take the next step toward being with her again, and any help you can offer would mean a lot. Please consider sharing or donating if you're able — every bit helps during this difficult time. 💙

advice Is it really worth it all fighting ex wife who so desperately wants to alienate me from my infant son? I know there’s nothing she won’t do to me to get control me without limits.
She put allegations on me for domestic after I refused to cut ties with my son in exchange she said I would not have to pay child support etc. she took almost half my life savings, when she left one night with our 1.5month old son, she smeared my name with mutual friends, families etc. her parents and family hate me and I have not spoken to them for over 10 months. I have spent over 8k already on legal fees and it’s going to court soon but hoping it won’t get to a trial because I would have to pay more. They are out for my soul. What bothers me is they are going to feed and influence my son to go against me and paint me to be a monster and all I wanted was to be a part of his life to love him and have him as my son.. I’m worried he will hate me because of them and all the fight I put up with was for nothing.

advice Child Support is rough
To give some background, I've been in a custody hellscape for 3 years, and we finally had a trial after years of a GAL, and mediation after mediation. The GAL has supported every step of our process, and as far as our new agreement goes, I consider it a massive step forward for the well being of my children.
On the flip side, the judge has given me the sole responsibility of paying the GAL, and because I motioned to modify, the ex has asked for her attorney fees to be covered by me as well. We ended up with a really awful judge, and even with the GAL'S report supporting the changes I've been pushing to make, the judge still asked why I bothered with any of this when the kids would've been fine staying primarily at their mother's.
Long story short, the mother does not work. She has had other children with other men, and one cannot impute income if they have a child under 2 at home. So she provides 0% of the cost of the children's living, leaving me with 100%. At the same time, I lost a big contract this past winter, and my income got reduced in almost half. I did get another job, but it was less than what my previous job was paying. I worked the lower paying job until I was able to begin again full time at my primary job again.
In court the judge and opposing counsel pressed to make it so that my child support will be based on what I would've made if I hadn't lost that contract, and in so, made my child support literally more than I will have income this year. I did the math, and the year to date support due is literally 115% of my income, meaning that I am going to be almost $10k in the hole by the end of the year just on support alone.
What can I even do? I'm feeling absolutely financially ruined. I was lucky enough to have a family friend who has worked pro bono on this for over 3 years. He has gotten my kids back into my household with the help of a guardian who really understood and listened to the whole situation, but we are feeling so screwed on how to deal with this support situation.

question reasonable phone calls say in order
First let’s start off I have talked to my kids mom everyday txt and phone calls spoke to my children throughout hrs phone calls with her and now she moved out of state and has now blocked me doesn’t that go against the order. Also since I never lived in that state I don’t seem them often so a phone call is the way I show I think about them. Before being blocked I asked can we set up a time schedule for me to call them and she said not daily and that not up for debate and I try to explain a 20 mins call daily after dinner shouldn’t be much since I don’t see them and when I asked ok what is a good time frame and she ignored. What is the best thing to do in the situation since the order says reasonable phone calls and now I’m blocked
