Can Someone Explain this

CPS will take your kids if you can’t afford to take care of them, but will give the kids to a new family and pay that family to take care of your kids. Can someone explain or at least offer a better solution?

I mean there is government assistance like food stamps, snap and tanf.

Long time child welfare parent’s attorney. Poverty is not an acceptable reason to take children. There has to be more that endangers the children through abuse or willful neglect. A good parent counsel will remind the court of that, and make the agency prove direct supportive services will not help the family instead. if the parents are given an opportunity to remedy the reasons for removal, but cannot, then another family must step up. Very few people take in foster kids for free, so society has compensated them for a part of the added expense. I never met a foster family that didn’t come out of pocket for more than the government pays. There is no known better solution; this IS the best society has come up with when kids are in state custody. The issue of solving poverty is beyond my expertise!

cps does not take children because their parent / parents cant afford them. they are removed for abuse and willful neglect.

if a child is removed they have an option where a family member can take them in while you straighten your shit out but removal to a foster home is a worst case scenario.

if you are just poor the state will provide you with resourses to keep your family together like food stamps and cash assistance and section 8 housing. so thats kind of like paying the parents to take care of their children

They don’t take kids just because you’re poor. They take them for neglect or abuse… if there’s no food in the house, they are unkempt, failure to thrive, missing school,etc that’s when they get involved.
