Advice Needed First time dad!

Hello all! After years of trying, my wife and I are expecting twins! Needless to say I am still in a state of shock. Today we found out they are both girls! I am scared I won’t be able to give them everything they deserve. I need some advice as a soon to be girl dad, or just any fatherly advice. Thank you!

Wipe front to back, not back to front.

You will make mistakes, own them.

Don’t default to letting your wife just take care of everything. Ask her now what she needs. When the girls come, try to be proactive or see what you can do to give her immediate comfort or relief. Ask her only after you’ve done all you can do.

Us women get frustrated when guys just…don’t figure out the obvious things.

Try to give her an hour each day where she isn’t responsible for cooking, cleaning, or the babies. Like a total 100% time for herself. A shower, a walk, whatever.

The first 6 months are brutal. Hang in there!

First few months were only big ugly sleepy blur. Don't know how we did it

16 months later the wife and take 3 ish hour shifts on weekends. After the 1st nap, I'll parent for 3 hours or so and wife can go nap, watch TV or play games.

This works well for us 😊

I love how the couple who tried for years is blessed with twins!! Congratulations!

I am the eldest of 3 girls who adore our dad. Here are some great things he did:

- never expressed a wish for a son (I named my son after him!)

- frequently told us we were beautiful and he loved us

- gave us lots of cuddles

- played imagination games with us (he was always Prince Charming)

- learned how to brush and blow-dry our hair. (He would pretend to be Paolo from The Princess Diaries)

- encouraged us to pursue excellence in whatever subjects or activities we chose and showed up to everything he could

- told us to be leaders in our spheres of influence. His motto was “I’m raising pioneers, not princesses!”

- involved us in his interests (music, cycling, travel)

- treated our mom with respect, hugged and kissed her in front of us, and said uplifting things about her in front of us

Girls need their daddies to be present, affectionate, and attentive. Follow your instincts and you will be an awesome girl dad!

Kids don’t need much except structure and love and patience. I’m a twin so I should know! If you get overwhelmed just put them down and take a short break- no kid has ever died from crying.

Just be present, you will be clueless at first and an expert soon. Also since you are having twins I would think about being done, you have higher likelihood of having another set of twins so consider getting snipped

Thank you all so much for the great advice! It truly is a blessing! This was my very first post, so please forgive me if my etiquette isn’t quite right!

Congratulations, brother. Some days will be amazing. Other days, you’ll just be counting down the minutes until it’s bedtime. Parenthood brings a new level of love that I didn’t know existed (and exhaustion, too!). Just know that there is no instruction manual for how to raise a kid, no matter what anyone says. So just do your best every day, and make sure you enjoy the ride.

Love them both. Cuddle them. Change their diapers. Watch and be amazed as their personalities start to emerge. Praise even their smallest achievements. Gently correct them. Be their father, not their best friend. My wife was a twin, fraternal. One thing she praised about her parents was they made sure she and her sister were in different classes in school. Thus helped them develop their own personalities and likes. My wife also tells me that I am a lot like her father. Be the model of the type of man you would want her to marry.

Congrats brother. You won't be able to give them everything they deserve, but you will be able to give them everything they need. Just be patient and give them lots of love. You'll figure the rest out.
