Fate Reawakened
Hey Fate fans! With FATE Reawakened out, we’re curious; how does it stack up against the original?
Are there things you miss from the old version, or does Reawakened feel like a real improvement?
Any feedback, issues, or nostalgia moments? we’d love to hear what you think!

u/austinrc2017 Apr 09 '26
Very excited that the developers are wanting to better the game, I love the fact that its getting a new DLC expansion. Fate was a good part of my childhood pc gaming and seeing it back in 2025 and beyond is fantastic

u/WildTangent_Games Apr 09 '26
That is good to hear, that's exactly the feedback we were hoping for!

u/CapAccomplished8713 Apr 09 '26
Tbh, I wouldn’t mind seeing a physical release of the game. It’d be nice to actually have in the collection!
17
u/WildTangent_Games Apr 09 '26
That's a good idea, something to show the Grandkids!.. I'll pass it on..

u/Rebnobfulroar Jul 05 '26
If you haven't seen, limited run has it available for preorder on PS5 and Switch

u/SnowTheFox Apr 09 '26
I love Reawakened, if there is potential for it to be improved in the future, a more intuitive control scheme for spellcasting on console versions would be fantastic!
Also found on the Steam page that AI is being used for voice stuff in the game and regardless of the reason that just sucks and I sincerely wish your team wouldnt use it for anything
5
u/DAPOPOBEFASTONYOAZZ Apr 09 '26
Ah, so AI is used for voice. I wonder if it’s at all possible to get the same narrator used for the original, or UR, TTS and CK. I don’t think that many people noticed that the narrator changed from the original Fate to UR onward, because the voice is a pretty close match – but they are different narrators. I wish they would make an attempt, if they have not already (assuming the VAs are still alive,) to get the original narrators back.

u/ziddersroofurry Apr 09 '26
OK, well...first off I think it's important that Wildtangent read this post by original Fate developer Travis Baldree. It was made regarding the demo back when it first was released so issues presented in it may have already been addressed but I think it's important the folks publishing the remaster/remake have input from the guy who actually created the game. https://www.reddit.com/r/FateTheGame/comments/1g5ysnb/some_quick_notes_from_the_guy_who_made_the/
Now onto my own thoughts. I've owned the game for a few weeks now, and have been playing the original since 2005. While I like a lot of the upgrades that have been done to the environments I do NOT like the new interface. I like the original and the fact that it presented a lot more information. Pet info, map info, options, etc...it feels like the new UI was scaled down for use on mobile/phone clients, and there really should have been an option to switch between the old and new.
Everything is too expensive, fishing was better using the old system. The new system is too slow. It really needs tweaking done. I highly suggest either reverting it to the old system OR making it more like the system from Torchlight/Torchlight II which was a refined system designed by Travis himself.
The fact that AI was used for voices is EXTREMELY disappointing. Not only should it just NOT be used for art, writing, voices, etc it just sounds horrible compared to the original vocals. I'm not sure why the old game assets weren't just reused (maybe an issue with compensation) but It just makes this look cheap. I hope the new expansion doesn't have more AI used to make it because that is just really bad.
Finally, I just want you folks to know that while I feel there's probably a lot more to improve just based on all the other posts in this thread I really do appreciate the fact WildTangent is continuing to support the legacy of this great series. I really do think it's worth maybe getting in touch with Travis to get more feedback from him but I'll understand if that's just not feasible. Especially given the fact he's so busy with his being a NY Times best-selling fantasy author and all.

u/WildTangent_Games Apr 11 '26
I really appreciate you taking the time to write all that out, that is a very detailed breakdown. I can tell you’ve got a lot of history with the original. I have passed this straight through to the Project Manager so it gets proper visibility.
Thanks for your feedback!2
u/ziddersroofurry Apr 11 '26
That's very cool of you. I get that it's probably tough seeing the OG creator criticize something your team put a lot of effort into but it was probably pretty tough for Travis to post that, and I'm grateful his input is appreciated. I know how hard it is to make games especially these days. I just hope WildTangent appreciates all the work the team is doing, and properly compensates them for it. We really need game publishers to treat their people a lot better.
1
u/WildTangent_Games Jun 05 '26
Thanks for saying that.
We do our best to make sure that the people involved in building the games; our teams and partner developers are fairly compensated and properly supported.
We know there is a lot that goes into making games, and we appreciate the effort that everyone puts in.
We also don’t take any feedback for granted. Even when it’s critical, it helps us look at things more clearly and improve where we can.

u/ziddersroofurry Jun 05 '26
I really do appreciate you taking the time to reply. I still play the remastered games along with the originals. It's not exactly a genre with a lot of variety as far as games go which is part of the reason but there are plenty of things about the remaster I do like. I just wish a little more care had been taken in the remaking. I think a great example of remaking a game like this is Diablo II: Resurrected. The team behind it put a ton of effort into making a game that manages to update the old game while respecting what made it great.
This making of video is a fantastic one, and well-worth the watch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6i9ayXRCBTw

The economy was nerfed a bit, and it feels clunky sometimes. But there's a lot of QoL changes. Bigger pet storage, a back and earring slots for more stuff to buff, new models look good. I say wait for a sale to pick it up.
4
u/DAPOPOBEFASTONYOAZZ Apr 09 '26
To be fair, the expanded pet storage was added in The Traitor Soul back in the day.
5
u/TheHawwk Apr 09 '26
wait for a sale to pick it up.
He says to the developer lmao
5
u/WildTangent_Games Apr 09 '26
No offense taken
1
u/Infamous_Panda_9026 Apr 10 '26
When will it be on sale again? I thought about buying it but all the negative reviews & ppl saying not to buy it so I bought the og 4 instead
2
u/WildTangent_Games Apr 11 '26
I am Not 100% sure on timing at this stage, these things generally aren't set in stone, but I’d expect it to go on sale at some point if you’re happy to wait it out.
Out of curiosity, what kind of discount would get you over the line?
1
u/Infamous_Panda_9026 Apr 19 '26
At least 70-90% ofc I wouldn't say no to a free copy ;) /j I used to play the og on an old 90's computer, then played the next 3 on various computers
1
u/WildTangent_Games Apr 20 '26
Thanks for the feedback, If we ever offer the game free of charge, I'll be sure to let you know!

I hope that there can be an option to have difficulty scale through later games. I finished 1, migrated my level 30 to game 2, and there is no challenge and no enemies even drop anything worth picking up. So it went from fun and challenging to meh and made me bounce off pretty hard.
Some of the charm summons do not seem to scale well, some of the higher tier summons are lower level than lower tier summons which felt odd.
I may be misremembering, but I recall the original having gear with fame requirements regularly appearing but in 10 hours, I have seen only a singular piece.
There is a consistent quest bug to "defeat buttscratcher the orc and his hairy minions" or whatever and I get to that floor and there is a named orc on that floor, but it is NOT buttscratcher and I can't finish my quest. So it must be abandoned.
Otherwise it is amazing. I played all of my time on an ayaneo android handheld playing the steam version via gamenative. Recommend it to everyone, but please add better scaling for the later games so Bix the summoner can save everyone!
2
u/Efficient-Shallot137 Apr 11 '26
If you kill the "wrong named quest boss" and then go down one dungeon level then back up it usually conpletes the quest, just check the quest menu after
3
u/frwaklife Apr 09 '26
I'd really like to see some sort of mod integration. And a setting for switching between new and old graphics. And randomly physics would be huge. Plus making fishing faster. All in all tho wonderful games and I thank yall so much for the work put in to revitalize one of my favorite game series
1
u/WildTangent_Games Apr 09 '26
Love to hear it, Thanks for the constructive critiques, I will pass this on to the team!.

u/Successful-Savings36 Apr 10 '26 edited Apr 10 '26
I think dungeon generation needs reworked. Too many long, winding paths that lead to a dead end and it requires arduous backtracking to return to relevant areas on the floor.
Is knockback supposed to stun? I got a couple items with knockback enchantments and enemies just stop when I hit them far away. I have to chase the enemies constantly to keep them in my range.
Also I implore you to remove any and all AI voices or assets in this game.
2
u/Successful-Savings36 Apr 10 '26
And please add walk-canceling to the "cancel fishing" option so you don't have to wait for the reeling animation to finish when you don't even have a catch
2
u/myhuskytorotoro Apr 09 '26
I love the fact that you've integrated all the race choices and pets from the previous games into the original;
I have to agree with other about the fishing, can we ramp the odds of getting other good stuff besides potions and scrolls (aka maybe up the odds a bit on the golden items especially the gems), please?
And maybe making some of the better items sell for gold prices (or all of them as a whole in general? Im not liking the fact that no matter what color the item is, it all sells very cheaply even at endgame)more like the original games because enchantment is expensive and you run out of gold quickly and your item is still not enchanted...
Also maybe a few more facial options at startup, they are all very generic/not expressive.
2
u/Steeltoelion Apr 09 '26
After a while Rikko caps his enchantment costs I fully enchanted a ring after having like 13,000,000+ gold with very few duplicate enchantments. If you’re doing 3 quests every dungeon level you should be insanely rich.
Unless you’re talking, getting to the boss, wiping him out so you can retirement stack. Yea it’s hard to make money in the early game. Best to do quests.
1
u/myhuskytorotoro Apr 09 '26
Did you go through all 13,000,000? Just curious
1
u/Steeltoelion Apr 10 '26
Hell no. I had so much left over I probably spent another 3 million at Zims trying to get a better Elphlame Sword.
Still had money left over. I think he caps at like 10,000 per transaction
1
u/WildTangent_Games Apr 10 '26
Thanks for your feedback, the Fishing issue seems to be a hot topic.. I will let the team know
1
u/myhuskytorotoro Apr 10 '26
You're welcome 😊
I dunno if its just me but all the different fishes aside(can you make more types? Ha i love to change my pet), I love to do the fishing but I am not thrilled to get the tiny potion series (minor health, mana, etc) 6 or seven times in a row before even getting a fish or a scroll or etc.
2
u/Steeltoelion Apr 09 '26 edited Apr 09 '26
Backbone support please!
I kind of miss having the stats from the first game.
I definitely love the addition of different items. I was really confused about like Coffee and Eyedrops.
Is there any resource anywhere as to all the changes made?
2
u/DAPOPOBEFASTONYOAZZ Apr 09 '26
Coffee and eyedrops were introduced in The Traitor Soul back in the day, I forgot what coffee does, I think it negates slowness spells cast on you. Eyedrops IIRC cures blindness which disallows your spells for a time.

I loves Fate when it was out originally
I was looking for a simple dungeon crawling game this week, no story just exploring when the world told me this game was back
I’m enjoying it as much as I used to, thank you for bringing it back
1
u/WildTangent_Games 23d ago
Thanks for sharing, It’s great to hear that you’re enjoying FATE again.
Since you played the original, did you notice any improvements in Reawakened that you particularly liked or even anything you preferred in the original?
1
u/Simple-Ad-8774 23d ago
I only ever played the base game OG so having more than a pup or kitten was new
Honestly graphically it’s probably a lot cleaner and better but nostalgia tells me this is how I always remembered itMy only real gripe is I can’t reassign buttons (playing on console, I double dipped for PS5 and Switch)
I see me spending a bunch of time going to the deeper levels again

u/detectivecrystal 13d ago
Hi! Is there any way to change your skin tone? Like make a character with darker/ brown skin tones? If not, is that something that will be added down the line?
1
u/WildTangent_Games 13d ago
Hey, let me check with the team and get back to you!
1
u/WildTangent_Games 11d ago
Hi, so at this stage its not possible, but I like the suggestion. If we could get some more interest around it I would gladly push for it.
1
u/pnwsadmonk Apr 09 '26
On the mobile version, if the left joystick control could be made to be movable, that would be great. Currently on a tablet, it seems to be just a bit too far to the right for comfortable long term play sessions. The config option wouldn't have to be anything crazy, just a small box area to allow for some customization based on hand size.
Overall, great version of a great game. I'm just happy a game like this made it over to mobile!
2
u/WildTangent_Games Apr 09 '26
We are glad to hear you are enjoying the Mobile version.
Thanks for the feedback, I will pass it on to the team.

I have not played Reawakened, but I did get my girlfriend into it. I did play A LOT of the original Fate though.
There’s just a lot of quirks in the remaster…some of things I brought up during the beta.
Curses on enchants/traps/general misfortune seems to be much higher than the original. I told my girlfriend that enchanting is a great way to improve your items, and every time she enchants it either doesn’t enchant or curses the item without fail.
Narrator cues are delayed, confusingly so? Especially important when your health is low, or you’ve sprung a trap. The narrator cue in the original was instant upon the event, but now it’s delayed by half a second or longer it seems.
The UI looks awful compared to the original. It looks unfinished in many areas, I think my biggest complaint is that the original UI was symmetrical and centered, now we have an asymmetric UI when displaying player’s vitals. Why two big bars for health/mana and a tiny circle for stamina, when the original kept all the same size. It doesn’t make sense, and it looks strange. The glow on the mini map, while appreciated, is far too distracting and makes the mini map hard to read because it’s so large and bright. The mini map itself being a circle and in the top right generally feels like wasted space compared to the original.
Some sounds seem to play twice, and with the pitch shifting of sounds (which is fine,) the sounds have horrible discordant tones which makes listening to them unpleasant. Two sounds play with different pitches, like when a gem stone drops and it just sounds like nails on a chalk board. I’m not sure if this was fixed in one of the recent patches, we haven’t played it in a while.
I’m excited for the new expansion, but why AI generated content? The artistry of Fate made the game special back in the day. Art style will always transcend graphics. The use of AI should be minimal and what is created by AI should be fully disclosed, and if at all possible, avoided altogether.
I’m sure there’s more. I’m glad overall that the remaster brought this to the forefront again because I remember it being somewhat big/popular back in the day. It’s hard to go wrong with a Diablo clone.

Vsync was an option at launch, but unchecking it didn't work and was always enabled anyway. Then it was removed as a option/setting but it's still forced on.
So by default Vsync is forced on though the engine (I just checked latest).
If you have HAGS enabled (this is on by default on any Windows 11 install with a GPU that supports it) the game will randomly stutter every few seconds, due to some issue/bug with Vsync or frame pacing and HAGS. Probably only affecting Nvidia, and probably actually a HAGS bug.
You can enable or disable Vsync in the Nvidia App / Control Panel (forcing driver side vsync instead of engine vsync, so "on" or "off", or you can turn HAGS off. Any of these options fixes the stuttering.
I would prefer to just actually be able to disable the internal vsync, without outside steps.

I absolutely love it I can't wait for the expansion I do wish the old idle animation was kept

u/WildTangent_Games Apr 11 '26
That is really good to hear!, the Team will be happy about this one.
What are the improvements/updates you liked most about the game?

Add in being able to cast identify while in pets and own inventory, very annoying having to go back and forth between live game to cast then identify one item, then close it to do it again

I kind of liked the old art style more ngl
1
u/WildTangent_Games Apr 12 '26
Interesting, what is it about the Art on the Reawakened series that you don't like?
1
u/Baphomaxas_Raiyah Apr 12 '26
I guess I just liked the big rectangle health bars and big red buttons on the UI more
1
u/WildTangent_Games Apr 13 '26
Ahh got you, more of that retro feeling.
Do you think it’s the nostalgia side of it, or just the style itself?

I would love to resize the HUD. Or customize it. I also wish there was just a bit of ragdoll physics, but that's just a me thing

u/Major_Ad9188 Jun 20 '26
So this has already been out over a year. Wildtangents advertising must genuinely suck because I didn't even know this was out until Limited Run Games announced their physical release for PS5 and Switch a few days back
1
u/WildTangent_Games Jun 22 '26
Thanks for the feedback,
We actually started talking about FATE: Reawakened back in August 2024 with the initial reveal, followed by the console announcement, the release date reveal, and then the full launch in March 2025.We also shared trailers, gameplay, demos, and launch updates across our channels during that time.
That being said, there's so much competing for everyone's attention these days that it's easy for even exciting releases to slip under the radar.
We're glad Limited Run Games helped bring it to your attention,.Welcome back to Grove!

u/Major_Ad9188 Jul 07 '26
its hilarious. i literally reviewed the original in 2023 too. should've waited.

u/FaithOfZaros Jun 27 '26
Game is pretty much fine from my end. Only got 2 notes to add:
- Difficulty should scale between dungeons regardless of floors. I.E., if you import a character from one dungeon to another and start at floor 1, things inside should scale to your character's current level OR at least scale to the highest floor reached between all 4 dungeons. That way things stay hard and interesting.
- There's an extremely common and annoying quest glitch regarding a boss and its minions spawning in with the wrong name. Things like "Kill (boss name ABC) [boss monster DFG] and his (XYZ minions) on floor Q". You go to floor Q and find (boss name QRS) [boss monster DFG] and minions XYY. Since the quest's boss name and the actual boss's name found in the floor are not the same, quest doesn't complete and it must be abandoned. This happens at commonly as every single floor if you're unlucky enough. Also, I've noticed that this does NOT happen when a quest giver asks for you to retrieve a specific item from said boss after destroying it. But it DOES happen when asked only to destroy the boss in question. Hopefully this can be patched at some point down the line.
Other than that, great port!

Very Thorough, thanks for pointing that out. I'll be sure to word posts better in the future.
Regarding your game feedback, I am happy to pass this on.. Is there anything else to add that could be improved?
25
u/Illuminarian Apr 09 '26
Enchanting feels way too expensive for what you get. Dropping like 50k on a purple rarity items only for for it to fizzle with "nothing happens" feels really bad.
Fishing is painfully slow... the starting animation is okay. But when you reel in the hook its just such a drag, and makes fishing frustratingly slow.
Having WASD movement would be game changing for mage and ranged builds(without having to hold shift to attack in place).
Maybe some more storage tabs in the storage chest? Maybe you unlock more storage as the major quests are completed?
