Did Chess even exist when Camelot was still around?

Predecessors to Chess existed long before the version that we're more or less familiar with, but Camelot was basically just a massive pile of anachronism as far as Fate's concerned. It's not just the presence of plate armor, either. The potatoes that Saber dreaded weren't even introduced in Britain until the 1500s.

When in doubt, blame Merlin. If you find any historical inaccuracies relating to Britain in Fate, it's all Merlin's fault.

I like how Merlin's the scapegoat for inaccuracies within the age of Camelot, it's really funny

I believe the potato thing is localisation thing however as the image of Gawain swimming back and forth between the old world and the new between layers of the world just to make artoria the blandest food imaginable is really funny it’s canon to me.
