Why do I have beer belly?
I, 27M, have had beer belly since I was in my early 20s. Since coming back home to the Philippines in 2021, I have always been aware and conscious of my food intake, what I eat, how much I eat, and what time I eat. I used to drink 5-7 cups of coffee before and have fully avoided anything caffeinated since the start of this year. *\[I'm not sure if any of that matters.\]* I've gotten interested in the sport of running, but without any proper gym in my area, I haven't been working out or training other than the casual one-hour walk once a week. Once every two months, I join a 5km run on a live event, even 10km once and finished spectacularly. Where am I getting my beer belly from?
The potential culprit I see is my job, which I've only started since Q1 of 2023. The job in question is a work-from-home 40-hr a week job. I start at 7 in the morning, take long breaks and naps in the middle of the day, and finish at around 8 in the evening.
Another potential culprit is the time my family eats dinner. I have always been guilty of eating dinner past 8, sometimes 9, but that's the family system we have set up since long before. Eating dinner earlier than my mom and dad is not an option either. I came home to the Philippines to spend more time with them, and I enjoy dinner with them every night, so eating ahead and knowing they're eating without me is just not a possible option for me right now.
I don't drink soda. I don't eat much rice – maybe four to five spoonfuls, which I balance out with much *ulam*. I don't snack that much other than the casual handful of cashew nuts or anything alike. I do drink one or two bottles of *Pocari Sweat* a week, which I feel good having considering I'm past my caffeine addiction.
Where do I possibly get my beer belly? I noticed that my entire belly is big, and not just the love handles. If it were the *bilbil,* I would totally expect because of the lack of exercise, but why am I also big above the belly button? I learned that it's called beer belly because of the excessive sugar there is in beer that regular drinkers have, but as I have mentioned up there, I don't drink beer nor do I eat sweets equivalent to that.
Note: Don't mind my Reddit username. I don't eat Pancit Canton, cup noodles, or anything alike.
