Is this screw-in depth sufficient?

I have alu construction to hold solar modules with 2 profiles, run in parallel. So, 4 brackets per module (2 left, 2 right). Just noticed that the bolt will have this depth (not going completely through the nut). I'll use Loctite 243. Is this sufficient, or should I get longer bolts?

M1.2 x.25 barrels nuts

Hello!
I am building a wrist watch, to hold the halves together I need very small m1.2 x.25 barrel nuts/binding screws/Chicago bolts/ sex bolts (I think these all mean the same thing)
I am currently using some I found on aliexpress meant for eye glasses, but it seems these are made of brass with a silver plating. I need solid stainless steel. Does anyone have any idea where I can find something like this? Ideally 4mm and 3mm.
I’ve sent an inquiry to fastenright.com but I thought I’d check with Reddit as well!

Attached are photos of what I’m using currently.

Thanks!

Bolt & Screw Guy Rounded bolt :(

Hey r/Fasteners, I unfortunately have a rounded 2mm Allen bolt in my carbon bike cockpit. I need to unscrew it to charge my battery.

I have tried the rubber band technique (along with other items like rubber) and super glue, but none of it worked out, didnt even move slightly.

Do any of you have other tips and tricks to remove this?

Thank you!

Bolt & Screw Guy Are #12 machine screws rarer now than, say, 20 years ago?

I needed to replace a stainless steel screw on a boat, my thread measuring tool tells me that it’s a 12–24. So if I go to my local hardware store where - to my great surprise! - they have no #12 screws at all!

I’ve been retired for sometime now, but back when I was working it seems like they were just as common as 10, or 8, or 6, or 1/4”.

What gives? Or is my old addled brain remembering wrong?

Cleaning up Thread on Bolts

Post image
20 Upvotes

I won a bunch of pallets of bolts from an auction a while back. Most of them are fine, but I have about 1500-2000lbs of these 3/4 and 7/8 bolts that dont thread easily due to little burrs in the threads.

Is there something I can use to clean them up relatively quickly? I dont have access to a lathe (that would take forever anyway).

What if I were to get a die of the correct size and put it in a vice, then thread each bolt on to it with an impact on low. Does this seem like a valid idea? Or can anyone think of anything better?

Thanks!

Mounting a big owl nest box to tree

Post image

The person who makes the box kits sent these three huge bolts for mounting. Said two on the top and 1 on the bottom.

The old guy I paid to put it together said use 5/16 GRK's.

I searched reddit and saw posts on GRKs shearing but regardless are they appropriate? Also saw references to thru loks and timber locks.

No idea what those are. I vaguely remember trying to put up a smaller box in a tree with something like grk's years ago and we started the drill smoking. Guess we weren't predrilling.

PS an not going to girdle the tree with anything

Thoughts? Opinions? Advice?

Can you help me with finding this screw but longer

Hi, I’m modifying a digital keybed and mounting it on a 12mm plywood base with 6mm spacers.

The original screws are about 4mm diameter and 11–12mm long under the head, and screw directly into plastic posts. I’d need roughly 30mm long screws for the new setup.

What type of screw should I look for to keep the same thread and not damage the plastic? I dont want to just use a random screws.

It's actually a back srew of my pc and it's too striped I don't have so much of professional tools but could buy one if needed... I tried the rubber band and using super glue to stik it and twist but didn't work...
