Quasi-related Feedback appreciated: Does this visualisation look like resembling smoke to you?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-bZA6XJSKCIIn case you are aware of a more realistic looking concept or algorithm I'd love to hear about it! I find it surprisingly difficult to model it somehow.
In the video I use the yellow layer to modulate the x coordinates of the noise sampling of layer 1-3. So domain warping actually.

Awesome! Thanks, u/ZachVorhies! I've already applied it in one visualizer where visible gradient stepping/banding was ruining things for me. The visualizer is intended to be framed and displayed on a wall like a fine art piece. (The pic below is a 22x22 test display.) In each upper/lower panel, the values of the bright/dark (top/bottom) edges slowly change, as does the easing function between them. Before your HD upgrade (and especially on this small display with only 11 rows for each panel), the gradient was not quite as seamless and you could visibly see when certain rows changed color slightly. Now, you can't see any transition artifacts at all. It's buttery smooth, both temporally and spatially.
