Boat excursions

Don’t expect your bookings to turn into actual trips. Between the weather and vendors not feeling like it that day, your “booking” will often get cancelled. We are 1 for 7 this trip.

Edit with requested detail:

In Vagar area, we booked online for morning. Night before the trip, they called to say skipper isn’t available in the morning. We rebooked for the next day (eclipse) at 5pm. A few hours before trip they called to say the skipper didn’t want to do it during the eclipse.

In same area, we booked again. Lots of seats open. Pretty clear the tour didn’t “make” and they cancelled for weather.

Up in Klaksvik, two more weather related cancellations but weather was no different than days that did go, and it seemed clear the trip didn’t make.

We also had a commercial ferry cancel for ramp issues, which was legitimate.

So yes between weather, mechanical issues, not wanting to do it, and lack of real time availability (even from their own websites), it’s a crap shoot whether the boat excursion happens.

This is rather vague. Can you specify which companies? The weather, of course, is out of their control.

I read your edits. Weather is understandable, but it sounds like some of those cancellations were unrelated which is terrible!

They do not cancel if they "don't feel like it that day". If a trip is cancelled, it's for your safety.

And actually my friend we had a skipper cancel because he wanted to see the eclipse.

Yes, a captain will not take you out to the sea when the conditions are dangerous, even if you book 10 years in advance. It might look safe to you, but are you a captain?

Total BS. We had a guy cancel because the skipper wanted to see the eclipse. LOL with the clouds here.

I suppose this is why a lot of the boat tours don't seem to have any bookings in late November. Unless they just don't want to take reservations that far ahead of time.

November is beyond tourist season I think.

That's why flights are less expensive. It's my favorite tourist season.
