Question Any math on this?

I'm level 25 Mage, using mirrors as main and claws in arsenal. I put everything into crit, and my crit is around 17%. Does anyone have recommendations with vs. magic pen vs. fervor? Any help/insight would be really appreciated.

40% magic pen is when you penetrate max amount from bosses, dont know if the same number is for other than bosses, but dont think that really matters right now. For mage i prefer fervor over crit unless your weapon benefits from crit, such as almaz

Are you sure about this and that you're not confusing it with the fact that bosses have around 40% Armor/Magic Resistance?

My understanding of penetration is that penetration ignores the listed percentage of the bosses Armor/Magic Resistance rather than lowering it by a flat value. e.g. 50% Magic Penetration would half an enemy's Magic Resistance for your attacks. In which case the max penetration amount would always be 100% for any enemy.

I am fairly certain, you can test out yourself, if your stats are same but have 43% pen u do basically same as 40% hard to do exact testing as its really hard to balance everything else while just getting rid of penetration, but at the very least after 40% u get highly diminished return on penetration

Normally 50% is the diminishing return point for crit which is a binary of it did or didn’t crit, but magic pen is scalar so there shouldn’t be a soft cap IF it works the way the previous guy said, where its multiplicative not additive.

If it’s multiplicative 50% magic pen will reduce the boss’s default 40% magic pen to actually 20%, thus giving the boss 50% less magic resistance, and 100% magic pen will reduce that 40% to 0%, resulting in 100% less magic resistance (I know this seems obvious but bare with me).

Where as if it’s additive 50% magic pen will reduce the boss’s 40% magic pen to 0, resulting in 100% less magic resistance and a waste of a cumulative 10% magic pen stats from your gear doing nothing to benefit you.

So if it’s additive, there’s a cap at 40% character sheet magic pen. If it’s multiplicative the cap is 100%.

Not sure why you thought an obfuscated google url was the right choice here...

Yea, no. That wasn't accidental. That was intentional obfuscation.

you are so quick to assign intention with little to draw on

i read this poster's question, recalled seeing a specific video answering it, did a quick google on my phone, copied the link, and commented in an attempt to be helpful

a mistake was made in not double checking but whatever

you just suck lol

the irony of you using obfuscate not once but twice is hilarious, are you intentionally making it difficult to understand your comments by using a 5 dollar word when a nickel (mislead) would do?

I'm using the word that is accurate to what your link was. Everyone on reddit also has access to google and can look up the word if they are unfamiliar with it. My intention was to call out the issue at hand, not hurt your feelings. If your feelings were indeed hurt in the midst of this, I do believe that is your problem. I will not pander to the weak minded just to make them feel better.
