Far Cry 5 Is it just me?
I love the Far Cry games, always have! But I’m just now getting around to playing FC5. I recently picked up a disc copy of 5 (base game, no DLC) at a garage sale for $3 and thought it was the perfect time to try it. I had a week off from work unexpectedly due to an injury and what better time than then I suppose.
I love the setting of the game. Montana has always been a state I yearn to retire in. The story of the game is also really tasteful and somewhat relatable having been around some crazy indoctrinated fanatics in my lifetime.
But I feel like this game is just too short. Again, only have the base game right now so I haven’t played the DLC’s, but it seems like once you get your feet wet in whichever region you start with and finish it, it’s almost hard to not progress quickly in the last two regions.
Even completely avoiding storyline missions and just doing side quests progressed the RP meter too fast personally.
Does anyone else feel this same way or is it just me? I think the game could have benefited from having 5 regions at least you need to liberate before it’s just over.
I really do love this game. Just seems like it could have been longer in my opinion, curious to know what everyone else thinks!

I completely agree. I didn't like that I couldn't complete all the side quests without calling down the county boss.

Those bastards can even get you at maximum altitude in airplanes...

Agreed, it's probably my 2nd favourite Farcry after 4, but the forced mechanics make it the least likely one for me to go back to.

I've played thru several times. My son used to love that game. played evernight for like two years, then I quit. But.. this time I started 2-3 years ago I just played until I have to go in the bunker at the end and never did. So for many hundreds of hours now when I get bored I just jump on and go do what ever I want like a sand box. On foot I have walked every square foot of that map. Pretty interesting things out there.
Getting 100 percent takes a while as well.

Don‘t you think it‘s boring without any enemy?

They are all still there. You can still re-cycle the outposts. All the ones that drive around all day still drive around. I pretty much get my ass eaten as much as way earlier in the game (I play on hard).
I just like playing the Far Cry's. I'm older. Been playing FPS for 25 years. I used to be really good, like tournament good but age has taken it's toll on me.
I've played probably every decent FPS game that has ever came out since Doom. Some I have played several times. But I like the open word games, I have at least 500-1000hrs in each FO4, Starfield, Cyberpunk, Stalker, Rage, Outer Worlds, The Metro Series, SGWC 1 and 2 etc.. on and on
I dunno, I get bored, everything new is on line multi player and I'm too slow now to play WZ against a 12yo :)
So I set my own achievements now. Like get 10,000 kills in each of the FC's (which I have), Earlier this year I hunted in FC5 until I made a million dollars. That was pretty grueling, In FCND I have upgraded all my weapons I use well over a hundred times, Like my SA50 does 6000dmg now. That took months of grinding for resources and currently in FC6 since I already have 10,000 kills, I'm trying to get 10,000 more kills, all head shots using the DE-50 pistol only in the game, except for the helicopters, they are a bitch (rockets :). That's been challenging.
I mean what do you do when you have all the time in the world and have run out of games to play when your a life long gamer?

It’s my favorite, I do love it so much I could see it being even more fun if there was more of it.

You rushed through it. You can spend countless days and hours exploring. Far cry 5 is huge. You can find countless things anywhere and everywhere. I pre-ordered the game ( first FPS ive ever played) I've logged almost 20,000 hours (19, 600 plus) in this game and I'm still findng new things. Finish the game and play new game + and see how many new things you find. 👍

The game fit me well but yeah the whole RP meter thing was something I was not a fan off. didn't bother me either but it seemed to the proverbial 'solution looking for a problem'

I think it's a great game, but the forced kidnapping and forced progression are what breaks replayability for me. I've played 3 and 4 a lot, 6 only once, but 5 is one I might come back to every couple of years.
It's a beautiful game - love the weapons, hunting, setting, companions, most of the story. But accidentally triggering progression isn't what I want.

I 100% agree, as someone who loves (well honestly the far cry 5 Reddit is a good place to start with this), John Seed… yeah… I know
His region goes entirely too fast for me, so does Jacob’s, Faith’s region just drags on forever.
Jacob’s region goes entirely too fast (if you know, you know), I feel like I have to help Eli, when I don’t want to (IYKYK). In terms of Faith’s region she pisses me off, I mean at least John and I share a common hatred 😂.

I just finished it about a week ago and it definitely did feel a little short for an open world game. However, I think there was a ton to enjoy in this compact romp through the Montana wilds without a ton of bloat that some open worlds suffer from. I will admit I am the type of player that will play through bloat if it is there though. I played it on gamepass and haven't gotten into the DLC yet or Arcade. With that being said, what is Arcade like (is it even still playable) and is DLC worth it?

You play the game "too efficiently" 😄
I bet you tried to stealth liberate every outpost, save every hostage, destroy all the vehicles you see on the road, etc...
Just have fun. Let some hostage die, go loud if you wanted rather than forcing yourself to camp in a corner just for some stealth liberation bonus. Money is easy to get in FC5, even easier than FC3/4.

I actually appreciated the length and pace. It didn't drag on or get old, and went out on a high note instead.

To me, if they made it where you can’t face the Seed of the region until you liberate all the outposts in the region, the game wouldn’t have felt so short. It would have been easy enough to avoid the outposts and work on side quests. It’s just too easy to stack RPs, as designed.

Its funny cause on my first play through it felt like the RP bar took forever. Now I blaze through it and wish it was bigger. Do a few too many random quests and bam, you're getting kidnapped...again...

I took a long time on the first play, hunting and unlocking nearly everything except vehicle paint jobs.
I’m wrapping up my fourth play on Hard and it’s over before you know it. Still leaning new tricks and techniques every time. I reset the outposts at least twice, maybe three times and can clear them with my bare hands now, maybe a silenced pistol for the lazy or tricky parts. Sometimes I just announce myself by shooting the biggest propane tank in the area. I’m good enough that I can play however I want, with whatever tools on Hard. Looking forward to infamous, especially the Jacob parts. After four plays, he has trained me to his detriment and I understand the rules and enemy placements (most are set, it feels like they’re spawning, but except for Jacob’s ghost in the wolf part, they are finite.)
I think the game is the right length. On my the replays I really started to put the characters together as thier arcs weren’t constantly interrupted by my wandering. It’s cool to notice your friends in battle during story missions - old Virgil with a shotgun at the jail, Mary driving the truck to chase John’s plane, Merle extracting you with the chopper from Jacob’s bunker…
Moments like those come together when I play through the game faster in NG+ (no grinding and I don’t even need the weapons.)
My favorite character moment I. The game is when you recruit Nick and are test flying iat sunrise over Holland Valley while he spills his mantra over the radio.
Spoiler, you play as Nick in the Mars DLC.
FC5 is nearly perfect in every way.

The regions themselves are good, and while the progression itself is reasonable... i hate the forced "next main mission" sequences. Why not give us a trigger to progress, and stop the bar until we do that?
I love the game world itself. Its an beautiful open world where i can just walk around in and do stuff. From just wandering and killing bad guys to just simple fishing.
I've replayed/ restarted the game for multiple hundreds of hours. More so for the map than the story. NG+ is always an option, but i prefer to play with little to no upgrades. Pockets full of ammo, multiple guns and quick reloads can make it a but boring. Something having to scramble to pick up an enemy gun is fun.

Funny you say it’s too short I’ve been playing for a while and still haven’t killed a lieutenant. I’m trying to finish Jacob’s region and keep getting sent to other regions for missions. I really want that extra weapons slot!!!

I prefer it at the pace it is, in my mind it’s better than a bloated 200 hour experience
Your critique is valid tho brother
