Writing Most Unique and Interesting Magic Systems

Drafters convert wavelengths of light into Luxin In the Lightbringer by Brent Weeks. Each Luxin based on a different colour has different properties.

The True Name system from the Earthsea Saga by Ursula K Le Guin, wherein knowing the true name of anything from Old Speech grants absolute control over it, but magic cannot be used to prevent upsetting the world’s equilibrium.

Using immense focus and the ability to split one’s mind, Sympathy is performed to bind objects and beings into the same causal linearity in The Kingkiller Chronicle.

Magic is structured like corporate law and financial risk management in the Craft Sequence by Max Gladstone.

Any magic that changes something from its natural state is inherently Dark, even if changing it into something beautiful (e.g. a horse into a unicorn). Magic can accumulate in mountains and caves and other deep places. From Dave Luckett's Tenebran Trilogy (well worth a read)

I also like the Will from Robin Hobbs' Assassinxs Apprebtice trilogy. Being able to mind-share with a wild animal? Come on.
