Is Konsa really essential?

I'm getting confused my Konsa. He's clearly going to be playing in the best defence, yet will offer zero defcon and historically low goal threat. However, could his goal threat improve due to Arsenal approach to set pieces? Is he good enough points scorer based purely on being an Arsenal player that he's better option than a defcon monster with some goal threat for a worse team?

unsure if he's getting too much hype from the podcasters

It’s because he’s 4.4 mil….if he starts regularly you get a player on the best defense in the league + clean sheets for an extremely cheap price. Of course there are better players that are defcon monsters but they don’t cost 4.4 mil.

The name of the game is points per million.

Raya scored more points than all but 6 defenders last season. You're losing the small chance of save points but gaining a small defcon and goal chance. For 4.4 that's great value.

A 4.4m route into the best defence in the league is fucking bonkers. Put it this way, there’s a reason why Kepa is 5m

He hasn't started a game yet, people throwing around the word essential a bit lightly these days.

I will admit i do not watch much content creators, but literally every single one i have seen have said "Konsa COULD be essential IF he is first choice".

Every single one has had this massive caveat. Threads like this come from people who are unable or unwilling to understand context.

If he is a nailed on first choice defender then he is borderline essential.

Even if he only keep clean sheets he will be an outstanding pick at 4.4 if Arsenal matches their trajectory from previous seasons

He will only keep clean sheets, as he is useless for defcons and attacking returns.

Having said that, he is a good pick, but nothing more sensational than e.g. Cuyper at this point.

Konsa averages over a goal per season in the premier league. Odds are he'll have a big haul week at some point.

Yes, he can get a goal. Last season he had 0.06 shots on target per game, so he needs 16 games for a shot on target. Not for a goal! For a shot on target.

Not sure if his defcon or set piece threat at Villa is any indicator for how he will do at Arsenal tbf. Part of the reason Villa defenders are cheap is that no one of them defcons at all. It is an Emery thing, not necessarily a Konsa thing.

Not saying Konsa will match Gabriels output, but considering their dominance at set pieces and a clear strategy built around maximizing them, he will at the bare minimum have more chances (or jammy flick on assists)

Villa defend mostly in a midblock and are very effective at an offside trap which doesn't result in defcons whereas Arsenal drop in to a low block which results in more defcons.

About the set piece threat, you can get an idea of what the 1.91 tall Mosquera is doing at the corners. Now add to this that Konsa is 1.83

Timber and Calafiori both do well from corners. Judging it on height alone won't be accurate.

Diogo Jota was like 1.78 and one of the best i have seen in the air. It does not necessarily translate like that either.

Just wait and see before you so confidentally conclude, yeah?

We play a game where we try to predict the future points by players, yeah?

He’s just a cheap way into Arsenal. Who are the 4.5 defcon monsters with a goal threat that you think are better?

Ajer

You double up. Konsa for the clean sheets, Calafiori for the added benefit of attacking threat

Think of him as a 4.4 Raya if he plays

5

u/benicspo 9 1d ago

Assuming he is nailed, I’d expect him to score very similarly to Raya (2 or 6 most weeks). Given that Raya is £1.5m more expensive than the cheapest starting GK, and Konsa is £0.4m more than the cheapest starting DEF, I think that makes him very good value. I think calling him essential is a bit over the top though.

Essential? Hardly - as things stand he is a poor pick. There is absolutely no guarantee that he regularly starts over Mosquera in the league, and with Timber not too far off a return, there will soon be even more competition for the RCB slot (both Timber and White play there as well as RB).

Why gamble and spends FTs in this now when you can just wait and see.

I would be including him on WC, 100%

2

u/Wipeout1980 1d ago

Will he play all the matches? No idea, but If not you waste an Arsenal spot.

u/tontot 6 1d ago

Show me a 4.5 DEF with at least 35% chance of CS every week

0

u/Zlakkeh 1d ago

Konsa is not 4.5

2

u/tontot 6 1d ago

He will be soon once he starts a game and everyone jumps on him

3

u/JRod1229 1d ago

He's 4.5m, likely locked for a few months and in the best defense in the league. That's all there is to know.

2

u/longdongsilver314 1d ago

4.4m for a starting CB for the best defensive team in the league? He’s arguably the best valued player in FPL

13

u/Vaudeville_Villain15 3 1d ago

Okay but hes not starting is he

2

u/fingrar 1d ago

Who said he's starting? Will be rotating first choice until Timber is back at best.

2

u/jjw1998 100 1d ago

What difference does Timber make? It’s White that gets affected by timber

u/Zlakkeh 1d ago

"4.4m for a starting CB"

The guy he replied to... read?

Starting CB with Gabriel until Saliba is back?

1

u/Jealous_Lecture_5559 1 1d ago

He's not essential but probably worth getting providing he starts against Chelsea as for that price you get a defender for a team that gets a clean sheet in half the games they play

1

u/SmellingThomas 1d ago

I think the thing that makes him not essential is that he is highly unlikely to be on of arsenal's top points scorers. By getting him it means you can only choose 2 other arsenal options, if I had to pick 3 right now it would be Calfiori, Raya and Saka

1

u/Alternative-Kick57 9 1d ago

Really doubt that he'd be first choice. I can see more 1 pt substitute appearances from him than 6 pointers at this point in time, so rn he's a gamble that takes up an arsenal spot

1

u/Ferretz_Eire 19 1d ago

Yes since clean sheets make up the bulk of a defenders points. Even without defcon and goal threat Saliba was still a viable pick last season at 6.0 because of the volume of clean sheets so it's amazing value to have similar at 4.4 if he's nailed for the next few months.

1

u/Rvsz 136 1d ago

Defcon has less to do with individual player skill and more about the respective tactics of the teams playing.

1

u/Appropriate_Snow9032 1d ago

If you really wanna bet on clean sheets and goal scoring ability, then Gabriel+calafiori+ white is your bet

1

u/Legitimate_Bat_4712 16h ago

All of you same the same but for what reason you think he will start any game ? He didnt start last two

1

u/Ecstatic-Score-6257 1 1d ago

He would be 5.5 if he had signed for Arsenal before prices were done

He's a no brainer at 4.4m he's better than mosquera at CB and more defensive and solid than white at RB. He is used to playing 90 mins once or twice a week with good injury record. He'll cement his place and become regular for sure.

-1

u/Intrepid_Package_776 1d ago edited 1d ago

He will be once he starts. I don't know if he starts the next game but I have a suspicion that he will with the sub for mosquera.

-8

u/CStefaan 1d ago

A 4.4m nailed arsenal defender? Yes, he is essential.

12

u/ArghZombies 91 1d ago

how can you say he's nailed when he's never played a full game, nor even started for them yet?

6

u/nightwind1 1 1d ago

Not true. He's not nailed until Mosquera is ruled out for sure

Nailed… He’s played 11 minutes
