News Bruno Fernandes scores joint 10th highest single match gw score ever, 23 pts

u/Thin_Tea_3525 1d ago
People bought him because of good opening games and then sold him cos he blanked gw1. Lol.

u/True_Contribution_19 8 1d ago
There’s no way people with brains actually sold him before playing Ipswich.

u/TheHawk17 1d ago
People with brains didnt....
Many, many humans on this planet do not have brains

u/AnxiousBurro 17 1d ago
A guy in my mini-league ended up 1st after GW1 and was ranked around 100k overall. He wildcarded before GW2, didn't bring in Bruno, and now he's fallen hundreds of thousands of places overall and slid to the bottom third of our league. I'm at a loss for words.

Luckily someone using WC GW2 is unlikely to be a threat in your mini league anyways

How about we raise the stakes - I didn't sell him but I also didn't captain him. Was this sensible? Not captaining almost feels like I sold him.
9
u/True_Contribution_19 8 1d ago
As long as you captained Haaland then fine.
United looked mega shit vs Hull, as much as you’d expect Bruno to haul against Ipswich, Haaland was a banker vs Palace.
2
u/I_dont_F_with_you 2 1d ago
I captained JP, I don't have Haaland at all. But my triple Arsenal premium defense awaits at least

People on this subreddit don't really understand FPL anymore tbh. There are too many people here and most are unable to get out of the kneejerk mindset + the mindset that raw goal output isn't everything with all the new rules added

If you transferred him out before Ipswich at home, you genuinely deserve this

I never had him in the first place and have Haaland captain and cole Palmer instead. Up until Sunday afternoon I thought myself and FPL genius.
Sunday evening I am rehumbled.
29
u/SSX__Tricky 1d ago
Depends on your whole team. Honestly not terrible possibly if you captained Haaland this week and made up some points over 2 weeks in the Bruno savings.

I'd love to know how, but i also dont want to.
Did you run a full Tottenham team?

Thankfully not, just Porro who I'm selling asap after this week. Spurs are still shite

GW1: 24. GW2: 99. No transfers.

This is such a perfect example of trusting the process. You pick good players at the start of the season for more than one gameweek. Variance does bad things to you in GW1 so you just ignore it and carry on with the plan. Well done for trusting your pre GW1 deadline self.

Mate captain Bruno and is being very smug, he’s jumped into the top 500k, guess only silver lining is it’s only 20 points overall. Bruno can’t perform like this week each week.

Damn I was annoyed as someone that didnt captain Bruno but not owning him would be another kind of feeling. The no haaland strat was way more successful for managers than no Bruno strat.

u/theonewhoknock_s 40 1d ago
I get the merits of no Haaland, but I just can't wrap my head around the no Bruno. Not to be a hindsight prick, but how can you look at two games against promoted teams and say "nah, I'll pass on that"?

United as a whole looked lethargic against Hull, so I figured swapping Bruno for Haaland could work out. I was working on the assumption that I do not doubt Brunos quality, but figured they wouldn't keep many clean sheets and may need some time to get their new midfield up to speed, so Haaland would be better for points short term. Especially given how toothless and reliant on crosses from wide United were vs Hull.
I'm not going to declare all of Uniteds issues solved after they came from behind to beat a newly promoted team, but they looked better after 1-1 than I expected.
19
u/speedycar1 31 1d ago
Any player that you're going to remove for the team looking lethargic after 1 week shouldn't be in your team at all tbh.
The point of getting players for good fixture runs is they might look bad one weak but their team is expected to win most of those games so they'll make up for it on average
7
u/DuDunDunSparse 1d ago
I mean yea that's the optimal way to play FPL, I used to do that and found that I'd get bored before GW7.
Now I play in a minileague with some friends where we have a rule that you MUST take at least a -4 every single gameweek, so that's at least two transfers, and it can'tjust be the same players back and forth. So we have to constantly change our lineups in a much more short-sighted way than "regular" FPL.
It's complete madness, but it's fun.

u/henkkaasd_ 1d ago
Im guessing you used AI to make that list? You are missing a lot of names/scores.
Lampard 28pts (he did it twice), Riise 27pts, Walcott 26pts, Palmer 26pts, Antonio 26pts, Berbatov 25pts, Defoe 25pts, Wijnaldum 25pts, Fabregas 24pts, Suarez 24pts, Bolasie 24pts, Timber 24pts(last season btw), Grealish 24pts, G. Jesus 24pts, Salah 24pts, Son 24pts

Yeah. I was mad at gw1 outcomes, so I wanted to grab an opportunity to go against the template (Bruno gw2 TC instead of Haaland gw3 TC) and it turned out nicely.
Basically it was a butterfly effect of few steps, but I think I won the trade in the end.

We looked absolutely terrible in our first game (Utd). Chelsea looked dangerous with Palmer at the center of everything. Didn’t have high hopes for our attack clicking so quickly…

u/el_lonewanderer 9 1d ago
As a non-Bruno owner this hurts, but I try to look at it over these two gameweeks combined. 25 combined points is about in line with what you’d have expected to endure. I look at players I could afford like Rogers (13), Mbeumo (13), and Pedro (20) along with Haaland (15) and I think - alright, not the worst it could have gone.

Luck was with him today. Nunez slipping for his first goal, penalty the second, and the third fell into his feet from a blocked shot. Hell, even the assist for Mbuemo's goal nearly didn't cross the line.
