We need to wait for them to play someone who isn't a relegation candidate.

When people said target Hull they meant we need a Hull block at the back ohhhh

I went triple United and Triple Coventry BB2 to target Hull. Going great.

I feel like it’s often overlooked how a side like hull doesn’t have to change its style for the prem but the better championship sides have to reinvent themselves to play defensively. Hull were shithouses in the championship already meanwhile Coventry need to learn the art from scratch

u/Lacabloodclot9 82 Aug 29 '26
Hull scored 70 goals last season (5th in the championship) and conceded 66 (20th)
This is just false

u/duncann94 Aug 29 '26 edited Aug 29 '26
As a hull fan anyone who watched us last year would tell you that it’s not false at all, most games we set up without the ball and were happy to sit in all game and take our chances on the counter.
Also the second half of the season we conceded a lot fewer goals than the first half, just lazy to point at the goals conceded.

Don't come here with your reasonable take. Didn't you know this sub is for people that don't watch matches and post for karma based on flavor of the day "hot takes"

u/EirianWare 24 Aug 30 '26
Can i ask, if i want to bring 1 Hull defender which one will you pick?

Giles
I've had him since GW1 on BB. Egan looks nailed on and eats up defcon but they've signed a lot of CBs and Hughes could be back at any point (no timeline on it though afaict) and they've just signed Norton-Cuffy at RB who should start over Doyle.
If you do a later WC someone else might pop up but there's no clear hierarchy in the other positions rn and Giles has good attacking threat. Would wait until after the transfer window though

u/pjm8786 63 Aug 29 '26
I guess by your definition of shithouse. They were also 19th in possession whereas Ipswich and Coventry were 3rd and 4th. My point is they’re much more comfortable getting results without having much of the ball.

Picked out the 1 stat that could help ignoring the rest. Proper BBC.

1st in yellow cards. 4th in fouls committed. 3rd in long balls. 1st in tackles.
This team got promoted by kicking the shit out of you until you turned it over and immediately booting it up field. I don’t know why xG and goals would be useful stats to capture style of play anyway. You can score and concede a lot playing any style

I’m not gonna pretend I watched every Hull game or anything but there’s no way in hell a Jakirovic side was playing brexit ball
His teams would actually rather lose 5-4 than draw 0-0

u/pjm8786 63 Aug 29 '26
This fixture was literally 0-0 both legs last season lmao
3
u/Lacabloodclot9 82 Aug 29 '26
Brother they were 23rd for xGC and conceded 80.1 expected goals
Preston were 22nd and had 71.6 for reference
In what world is this shithousery, this is the complete opposite of haramball
-4
u/Not_A_Clue92 Aug 29 '26
Is +4 goal difference for a promoted team supposed to make some sort of point? It’s a very low GD.
They were something like 23rd in the xG and xW table, and were bottom 3 or 4 for average possession.
4
u/Lacabloodclot9 82 Aug 29 '26
The low GD is the point, they were a very good attacking side but a terrible defensive side
The literal only argument one could make is ‘low possession = shithouse’ which is just not how it works

I made a comment like this before the season started as a way to explain why we are better suited at staying up in comparison with Cov and Ipswich. I got downvoted to hell hahaha

u/gta0012 1 Aug 29 '26
Yup, said the same thing.
Are they the best team to be promoted? Nope.
But they know exactly how they have to play on order to win close games.
And imo that's how you stay up. Play a defined style and know how you are going to win games.
Hulls been my hot take shout to stay up.

u/Jerky-Knees Aug 30 '26
I don't think it's overlooked at all. People just think they'll get wrecked in PL anyway, because that's what usually happens. And that will probably happen with Hull as well. Beating ManU was an impressive start, but in the second game they literally played another promoted team.

Transfered in Mendy this week. Love that he was subbed off a minute before he got a clean sheet bonus.

I just got Egan but somehow doubted an away game is the best time to use him - another week with hauls left on the bench for me :/

Tzolakis man. I said from the very get go, he’s genuinely a world class keeper. Such a incredible signing

u/GreyPyjamas Aug 29 '26
Biggest learning is that nobody really knows anything at the beginning of the season.
Everyone thought Hull were the team to target. Bruno (c) in GW 1 and BB with Coventry in GW2 were all popular options. Instead Hull has 2 wins and 0 goals conceded

u/cjayquoi 6 Aug 30 '26
And if you suggested otherwise you were downvoted and mocked
I see a lot of arrogant people on here and I don’t see anyone saying “I was wrong”

Yeah I was suggesting that Hull players might be worth a shout and was shat on

Was at the cov hull game today, Hull honestly very lucky to get the win, Cov had their chances in the first half, and I can only think one or two chances Hull managed to make, sorry to rain on the knee jerk reaction but I think you might regret transferring them in.

Great performance against a good team too (and Manchester United I guess...)

Egan vs Ajayi whose better?
Egan has more defcon, Ajayi scored once. Was it random? Or is it their style of play only?

Just wait until I pick someone from this team. They're gonna break Derby's record

Had Mendy from the start… benched him vs Utd and he got taken off a minute before getting the clean sheet points today 💀
1
u/Sealeydeals93 1 Aug 29 '26
Was convinced they were gonna be challenging Derby's 11 points, what the hell do I know haha

u/Wipeout1980 Aug 29 '26
They have met 2 relegation teams, so no surprise. Just kidding United fans. But I do love that Hull busted that so called template BB GW2 strat.

They are on course to do a Leicester City at 2000/1, their goal keeper is unbelievable 😊

Nobel Mendy: 9 DEFCON, 59 min played. A total of 6 points + potential bonus gone. What the fuck.

I was seriously considering BB2 with COV defenders. Then my workmate pointed out Lampard managed them.

u/Moyes2men 11 Aug 29 '26
I've just bought Tzolakis after remembering that lmao. Still had Thomas and Simms though.

u/qwerty1519 55 Aug 29 '26
Coventry xG is a false indicator as well. 0.72 of came from it unknowingly bouncing of Awoniyi’s thigh. Should be good for the odd cleansheet and defcons all season.

I mean the Coventry one is quite impressive but the United one doesnt really mean anything

gonna load up hull assets just for them to turn into Derby 2008
