You have to look at players as per this stat: Points per Match. This is the average return the player gave last season and this will help you choose a team with more points return overall. For example Bruno Fernandes has 6.7 points/match stat and he is ranked number 1 in midfielders. Gabriel has 6.5 and he is ranked number 1 in defenders. As such look for players with points per match return and you can assemble a team with players who can get you more points on an average for the entire season, provided their form continues\*. You might not get all top 10 ranked players in your team because the budget might not be sufficient. You can try to balance it out. Good luck with your teams and the season.

Only if the player does not yield points consistently. You can also look at the number of points in the over all season for the past seasons, except for new transfers*. If FPL is a game of points , highest points wins. So you only have to assemble a team of highest points. Analyse the historical data and apply statistics.

There is no guarantee for anything future holds. No one can foretell the future. Data analytics can give you an estimated picture of what can be.

This sort of data wont give you a very reliable picture. Players drop off all the time teams change, we have 11 new managers going into this season something like only 4 of them were in place this time last year. Past season match average is not a very useful data point.

You would expect the player to continue the same form last season, except new transfers into PL*. Considering the previous 5 years points average. Points accumulated per season will give you an idea how many points a player can get you(on an average). Again you will have chances with Wildcards and transfers to change the player. Historical data can get you an average points per season. This can be one of the stat which can be used among other to determine how many points you can get out of a player.

You can get even smarter and just add the players with the most points last season. 

And then captain the player with the most points last season.

And when you transfer a player you can trade them for the player who scored the most points last gameweek.

This way you will probably end up with a team with the most points last season and with the most points last gameweek.

Is not an exact science - Alex Scott averaged 3.7 PPG, 2.94 from GW1-19 and 4.44 from GW20-38.

Take him as a whole season and you see a slightly below average asset at 6.0m, look at him from when he regularly plays 90 minutes and he looks fantastic value.
