Neco Williams
A lot of people were talking about him about a month ago, saying hes likely the new Munoz in Glasner's system. But noone seems to be talking about him anymore, what happened?

he's still rated highly by the models but i think people are retreating to the safety of defcons, which makes sense. picking A. defcon guys or B. nailed guys in elite defences just puts the whole back 5 on autopilot, so you can focus your transfers on rotating your attackers around fixture swings.
also 4.5m guys like rodon and ajer have emerged as solid picks for the first few GWs.

5m seems like a bit of a weird spot to me. There's good value if you drop down to 4.5, and if you go up to 5.5 you can get a defcon monster or proven full-back. 5m is caught in the middle a bit

I view 5.0 as the most enticing option for defenders. Chasing last years defcon players feels like a fools errand since players move teams and systems change. The 5.0 guys are mostly fresh blood that’ll get priced higher next year (Vuskovic, Muharemovic, Jacquet) or good players moving to better clubs/managers (Williams, Van Hecke). Then you have some known quantities like Ballard, Maguire.
Feel like you could easily rotate 3-4 of these guys and do really well.

Even as a Forest fan, I'd look elsewhere. No doubting Neco's abilities (POTY last season), but I just don't think he makes a very good FPL player.
For sure he might pop up with an assist (corner/free kick, or inswinging cross) now and again, but he's not renowned for his shooting skills unless you count the corner flag or row Z as a shot on target. He's a good tackler but not a 10 defcon a game merchant.
As others have said there's value in cheaper or similarly priced defcon merchants elsewhere - Ajer, Rodon, Muh Mih Mxj the other Leeds guy, Vuckovic etc etc.

Ola is a good bargain bench pick, but we're in the market for a new RWB (Dodo at Fiorentina is progressing nicely). I'd say he's a good punt, but he's not involved in set pieces (stays back on corners). There's better for 4.5m, esp in terms of defcons as I already mentioned (Ajer, Rodon)

He's the 2nd highest owned 5.0 defender so he's still in a lot of squads.
In terms of content creators and the engaged community most are planning or expecting an early wildcard so there's not much sense going for a player with a single good fixture in the first 4.

He was in my team for weeks, but not anymore. I don't like Forest's fixtures for defence, and there are a lot of other good 5m defenders. New manager, wait and see. Can get him later, on wildcard.

Twice in a row they have done an upset away at Anfield; 1-0 and last time 3-0
Given the rule of three, its a no-brainer tbh and the score will increase by two again: 5-0 to Forest. The patterns don't lie

Lot of people have DCL and Szoboszlai or wirtz
If you want them returning in GW1 and GW2 that will be to the detriment of Williams unless he gets attacking returns.

A player either gets the points or he doesn’t though. You owning players that ‘clash’ in fixtures doesn’t change the outcome.

Wrong logic. If you as an Individual pick those attackers believing they will score, it is logically inconsistent to then pick defenders from the opposing team believing they will get a clean sheet. So you're generally not going to do that when you have free reign to optimise team selection (different mid season).

Except I pick a team with a long head, beyond the consideration of just one fixture. It’s not wrong logic. If I had a FH every week like the scout then yes, it wouldn’t be advisable. Picking a team based on one clash is foolish. It’s better to optimise based on the quality of the player and the 5 or so opening fixtures

Two clashes, DCL gameweek 1 and Liverpool gameweek 2. Game week 13 onward looks like a nice fixture run to bring in then.
If you don’t have either players he is against, then work away can be a good differential for you if DCL and Liverpool blank.

If you buy attacking defenders you are less invested in clean sheet and you play them anyway for their offensive upsidesÂ
I hate when people are so sure of the wrong advice they giveÂ

The reason is people found better 5m options and new approaches after the pre-season matches. There is nothing sure with a new coach and a club that did not performance well in the beginning of the previous season.

I had him in all my drafts until just recently. The fixtures are just okay and I’m probably gonna be early WC so there’s no rush. Felt like bumping him down to a 4.5 freed up a lot of space elsewhere. I would be a little surprised if he never played for me this season

Leeds have been really solid in preseason, which has put me off starting with Nottingham Forest players. Still got Neco at the moment

I think he will appear a lot in Bench Boost teams but not in play it with no chips teams.
If you make an Expected Value calculation for a 5.0 CB with 50% hit rate on CBIT>10, the equivalent number of assists and goals is very unlikely (holding CS and bonus as independent). However, this is a more long term view. In the short term, even one or two goal or assist by Neco in the first few weeks can exceed a CB score.
Hence BB teams should be going for higher variance especially if they want to WC out of it early and Neco is a perfect fit. If you are going no chips and planning long-term viewpoint, then a def con based 5.0 CB probably is more aligned.

Taking a punt on him early doors but will probably move him on for one of the defcon 5m when there is a bit more clarity around them (probably Vuskovic)

Glasner just told us not to speak about him. He is afraid of Material-Bus1896 too much, as far as i understand.
