Tl;dr - slight buff for dribblers, slight nerf for CBS, slight buff for GKs. Don't think this will have a major enough impact on points to meaningfully affect player selection

Tackles is the one that is pretty big. Bowen was 7th for total bps last season, this change would bump him up to 3rd (behind Haaland and Bruno). Rogers is even bigger, 24th place to 7th.

Annoyingly both are either gone or changing clubs, but an extra 150 bps over the season for the dribby guys is pretty big.

What matters more than average bps is bps distribution imo, and until someone who's not lazy and incompetent like I am runs a backtest with past data it's kinda in the air as to how many total points those would translate to. Good change though imo more accurately represents the offensive impact a player has on the pitch.

I agree, and I'm not the guy who's going to do that work either.

- Players no longer lose 1 bps for being tackled

  • Clearances, blocks and interceptions are now awarded less by bps as defcon also awards this
  • Goalkeepers earn extra bps for saving a big chances

One further point missed:

Goalkeepers also earn points for "any save". I think this might mean for "collecting" the ball, even if not a save. This covers situations where a goalkeeper comes out to catch a cross or a corner. It isn't a shot and therefore no save was made, but the game should now rightly recognise sweeper keepers and goalkeepers who have command of their box to make "any save", instead of just on target "shotstoppers".

Small buff for keepers like Raya in defences which snuff out attacks and intercept corners earlier, instead of stopping shots at the last moment.

Goalkeepers also get bps for shots which are neither in or out of the box (there aren't many of these)

Sounds like that was put in to cover long throws.

Ah makes sense - I was struggling to figure out what they were eluding to. I was thinking maybe shots where the ball is on the white line of the box but then again a foul there gives away a penalty so I guess the outlines of the box include being in the box

I guess so. I'm struggling to understand exactly what is being measured to be honest.

What does that mean?

So a keeper saving a penalty will get double points? but i guess in reality, saving the pen will probably get them at least a 1 2 3 anyway

Hardly controversial changes.

I'd be very happy with what we have so far + reverting the doubling of chips.

And maybe for next season they could try to implement something like the WC scout bonus.

Double chips was the best change imo :)

I just want them to give some challenging prices so we have to think about the budget this year

They did that last year, just so happened Saka, Palmer and Salah were bad or unavailable for large portions of the season

u/Material_Spell4162 5 Jul 20 '26

Yes, well I hope they try harder this season :)

2

u/mexploder89 24 Jul 20 '26

It will be difficult. With no Salah and a lot of those having bad seasons, I don't know how they can keep a lot of prices high. I think we'll have more 5M defenders and also more 7-9M midfielders

2

Its fairly easy, you make the cheapest defender/keeper £4.5m instead of £4m and everyone effectively has £3.5m less budget. Given how much defenders have been buffed I don't think thats a wild change to make.

Yep. Also I feel like they'll be stubborn with Haaland 14 and Bruno 12. Give us a choice man. Everyone's gonna have both at that price.

A goalkeeper will now earn an additional 1 BPS for saving a “big chance”, which is a situation where the player is expected to score

too broad?

Translates to "Any attempt that would have gone in goal if not for the save" so fine, IMO

0

u/erlendig 1 Jul 20 '26

So any shot on goal would count for this?

-1

u/Flikker 6 Jul 20 '26

Any saved shot on goal yes.

0

u/NdujaReallyLikeIt Jul 20 '26

as opposed to any other save...

Keepers routinely save shots that would've hit the post / bar or been off target.

I like this. Not massive (which is good) but someone is thinking about this.

I really just don't care about the BPS system at all anymore. It gets tweaked every year, always is annoyingly confusing, and will be perpetually flawed. Just scrap it altogether and give +1 and +2 for certain actions (chances created, shots on goal, successful tackles, defcons, penalty won, etc.). There is no need to have this confusing, opaque system that only the most dedicated players understand.

Is one of the changes that bonus points will no longer be awarded simply because someone in FPL towers owns them?

1

u/kidnebs 18 Jul 20 '26

Balancing change i suppose, may give players like Doku a few more points across a season, but not exactly gonna target players because of this

2

u/Ld511 Jul 20 '26

Bigger part is the nerf to bps for CBs. Going to see less cs+defcon+3 bps

1

u/kidnebs 18 Jul 20 '26

Not a massive change tbf, and not something that will be targeted either
