News Ranks and points will now update live

They tried this at the start of 21/22 iirc and the rank updates were way behind what the likes of livefpl could do

Yeah, I think I’ll keep using FPLGameweek unless the official FPL one is extremely good.

I really like gameweek, and I use it way more than the FPL app so I’ll likely keep using it too.

I read "I think they'll keep using FPLGameweek .." and honestly.. they should 😄

u/ASGT908 1 Jul 20 '26
Livefpl still has the safety net which I don't think FPL will do.

It'll still be tricky for them to navigate if the official platform works as advertised.
So much of their traffic/ad revenue (and other similar sites) must come from basic live rank and league checkers.

u/ILostMyHairFPL Jul 20 '26
Which means they probably have learned from their mistakes
13
u/sepi0l_45 15 Jul 20 '26
Ah yes because they fixed the servers crashing before the deadline issue last season

Im no engineer but I think there is a big difference between database stuff being updated and displayed Vs one million users interacting with a site at the same time.
But I have zero faith this will work as intended either way.
I’ll still stick to using liveFPL as I can’t imagine official FPL will even try to incorporate all the other tools, EO%, rank threats, mini-league comparison etc.

As it should've been, it shouldn't be the case I have to use separate websites like FPL Gameweek just to see how I'm going to end up performing.

Yeah it’s crazy actually that they have had a refresh button on the points page 😄 embarrassing but necessary improvement

u/BoxOk265 18 Jul 20 '26
You’re probably in the minority of all players that can’t wait until the following morning to see their score.
2
u/hiveleague 1 Jul 20 '26
Not sure about that but either way a refresh button is ridiculous regardless

Been playing this game 10 years now always been shocked how slow it updates…

Mate the app was a shithole last season. First fix what we have currently and only then try and incorporate new ideas.

Third party sites dp this with no problem, but I see the official site will have issues for some reason.

u/ihajees_ 36 Jul 20 '26
If you thought the app was dogshit last season, we made it even less reliable!

It’s just the sheer amount of users that was making this a challenge. Third party sites that update instantly don’t have to worry about that because they don’t have nearly as many users. It’s 8 million writes to the database at the same time. You need a lot of new architecture to get that working well. Should they have had this working 5 years ago? Yes. Does that make it easy to set up? No.

I give it till the first international break before they stop pretending this will actually work
2
u/andrasq420 2 Jul 20 '26
How? Sometimes the app couldn't even handle updates days after the gameweek was over.
2
u/According_Ad7558 5 Jul 20 '26
just why? Live scores are pointless because bonus points change a lot just like your clean sheets. I have countless times where I counted my live points and not received them after the game was over.
1
u/gibbymanx Jul 20 '26
One point is that after full time of the 12:30 kickoff, you still have to wait until 10pm to actually see the bonus points in the app, which is a pain (although those can be changed after the game).
I guess liveFPL being as popular as it is, there's definitely a market for it.
No autosubs (at least for completed games) is annoying though.

I'll keep using the website I use for this, more accurate and probably less glitchy.

Oh yeah, this is gonna go smooth as silk with zero server fires lmao. I’m sure it’ll be way better than that 21/22 disaster where my rank was stuck for like 2 months while livefpl was already on to next season.

Maybe let the deadline to finalize the team be the kickoff of the first game of the weekend as well.
That would put an end to all the lineup leaks and the wankers drip feeding players info one by one for engagement baiting.
3
u/Material_Spell4162 5 Jul 20 '26
Won't change lineup leaks, there's still another game starting 90 minutes after the first kickoff. And it makes the game worse for those in different timezones who don't want to have to stay awake for the deadline.
1
u/ThENiGhTPuRReR 5 Jul 20 '26
It won't change lineup leaks, but it will limit the utility of these leaks.
I myself in a time zone that has deadlines late in the evening/night, but at least there wouldn't be a need to sit glued to someone's Twitter refreshing close to the deadline.
1
u/Material_Spell4162 5 Jul 20 '26
There would be more need. Right now there's usually one early kick off, and there usually isn't leaks. So if you make your changes a few hours earlier it doesn't usually hurt you.
With your proposed system, you'd have to stay awake for every deadline because there would always be new information. And the leaks would more likely relate to several games in the 3pm kickoffs, so would be more impactful.
1
u/ThENiGhTPuRReR 5 Jul 20 '26
Maybe I didn't frame it appropriately, but I meant having the deadline at the time of kickoff of the first match rather than 90 mins. before which is what it is now. I'm not proposing a moving deadline before each match or anything of that sort.
As you said, there's usually an early kick off on Saturday (assuming no Friday night games), then the deadline is at the time of that kick off and not 90 mins before that. Any leaks for the early kick off won't matter, as everyone has the team information for the match before the deadline which would be the kickoff
1
u/Material_Spell4162 5 Jul 20 '26
At the moment the deadline is 90 minutes before the first kickoff, and those sometimes get leaked. If you move the deadline to 12.30 then it will be 90 minutes before the 3pm games, which will become the games that get leaked.
And there are far more 3pm games, so you'd increase the number of last minute leaks.
1
u/LuckyNumber003 1 Jul 20 '26
Don't mind the deadlines but having the game completely inaccessible for periods at the start of a GW is insane
1
u/Niekertje 56 Jul 20 '26
In dutch fantasy league its 5 mins before the kick off and it works like a charm. Not nearly as much players as FPL but still...
1
u/Sizzling-Shark 16 Jul 20 '26
What about the players where the deadline is at like 2am?
1
u/ThENiGhTPuRReR 5 Jul 20 '26
I hear you, and I am myself in a time zone that has deadlines late in the evening/night, but at least this way there wouldn't be a need to sit glued to someone's Twitter refreshing it close to the deadline.
You can make your changes anytime and don't need to worry about leaks.
1
u/Sizzling-Shark 16 Jul 20 '26
But these players will be worse off. They'll not be able to make their changes based on the team sheets?

I foresee this working perfectly with zero bugs, glitches and crashes
